LAHORE: While widespread rain and snowfall in upper parts of the country are likely to continue till the weekend, another westerly system is reaching Pakistan on Wednesday before the departure of the current one which has yielded enough water for crops over the past three days.

The Met department said on Tuesday that the fresh westerly system would likely reach northern Balochistan on Wednesday and cause more rain and snowfall over the hills in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, upper Punjab, Islamabad, Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan on Thursday and Friday.

From Saturday to Monday, Parachinar received 176mm of rains, Dir 102mm, Pattan 93mm, Malamjabba 74mm, Kalam 73mm, Saidu Sharif 66mm, Garhi Dupatta 55mm, Darosh 54mm, Balakot 53mm, Muzaffarabad 51mm, Abbottabad 43mm, Rawalakot 41mm, Chitral 36mm, Gwadar 29mm, Islamabad 24mm, Turbat 23 and Rawalpindi 18mm.

During this period Malamjabba received 3ft of snowfall, Astore and Kalam 2ft and Murree 1.5ft.

There has been light rain in the plains of Punjab, ridding the upper parts of the province of dense fog. However, southern and some central cities like Bahawalnagar, Bahawalpur, Faisalabad, Jhang, Okara, Toba Tek Singh, Dera Ghazi Khan, Khanpur and Sahiwal are still facing fog.

Lahore has been receiving occasional splashes of rain over the past three days. Met office has forecast strong chances of rain in the city. On Tuesday the maximum temperature in the city was 17 and minimum 6 degrees centigrade.

On Tuesday Parachinar received 37mm of rains, Dir 32mm, Pattan 24mm, Garhi Dupatta 22mm, Saidu Sharif 17mm, Cherat 16mm, Risalpur 10mm, Muzaffarabad 9mm, Peshawar 8mm, Lower Dir, Kalam and Nokundi 7mm (each), Kalat 6mm, Dalbandin and Balakot 5mm each and Darosh and Kakul 3mm each.

The Met office forecast scattered thunder-rain with snowfall over the hills in upper and central Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, northern Balochistan, Gilgit-Baltistan and Kashmir during 24 hours.

Isolated thunder-rain is likely in Karachi, Hyderabad and Larkana divisions and lower Punjab. Scattered mist and isolated fog would prevail over plains in Punjab and upper Sindh.

The department said the fresh westerly would likely cause widespread rain and snowfall over the hills in Malakand, Hazara and Rawalpindi divisions, Gilgit-Baltistan and Kashmir from Thursday to Friday.
