ATTOCK: The rain spell a couple of weeks ago has left a positive impact on the seasonal crops, especially mustard, in this arid district of the Potohar region.

After the rain, the mustard crop is in full bloom giving an eye-catching view in the agricultural fields.

It may be mentioned that the green leaves of mustard plants are also used to prepare a favourite food dish known as Sarsoo ka Saag.

Moreover, its seeds are used to produce mustard oil, which is used for cooking and many other purposes. The recent rain brightened up the chances of good wheat and mustard crops and will also have a positive impact on the other Rabi crops in the district.

According to agriculture department sources, mustard has been cultivated on about 10,0000 acres and wheat on 600,000 acres in the district. For the farmers, the recent wet spell was a blessing as the farmers had been upset due to the delay in the start of the winter rain.

The farmers are hopeful about getting an above average produce of both the crops.

More rains will also brighten the chances of a bumpy wheat crop which is now in the early growing stage.
