MULTAN: Police officials from the constable to the deputy inspector general ranks in Multan range have been asked to provide at least one information each in a month to strength the intelligence system of the police, Dawn has learnt.

The police high-ups believe that the practice will help in minimising the crime ratio as the force will be able to collect information even about dangerous culprits and the people patronizing them.

“Each and every police employee is bound to provide at least one solid information each once a month to check crime and improve administrative affairs,” said Regional Police Officer Muhammad Amin Wains.

The RPO said after taking the charge of his office, he realised that the entire region was lacking effective intelligence system. He said thousands of policemen were performing their duties in police stations, special branch, counter-terrorism department, police training school, different jails and other places in districts and about 90 per cent of them had enough information about their respective areas.

Mr Wains said the information would also be gathered from commoners and other intelligence agencies about criminals, absconders and extortionists in their respective areas. He said the new intelligence system would not only help improve relations between the police and public but also solve issues of the masses.

The RPO said DPOs of Vehari, Khanewal, Lodhran and SPs of Multan would assign the duties to police officers to collect all information and submit it to their respective SPs who would dispatch the data to their respective district police chief.

He said the information would be collected at the union council level and the in charge of each UC would submit it to his respective station house officer.

Mr Wains said the report of the action taken by the police on the basis of the collected information would be dispatched to the range office on a monthly basis.

SSP Investigation Kamran Adil said that there were about 15,000 police employees at the regional level.

He said the most important feature of the new intelligence system was that it would be implemented without additional financial resources.
