KARACHI: The Democrats panel won the Karachi Press Club elections for 2014 on Saturday with majority.

According to the results, Imtiaz Khan Faran of daily Awam was elected president with 486 votes. His rival, Ayub Jan Sarhandi (Daily News), secured 61 votes.

The seven members of the governing body were also elected. They are: Irshad Khokhar (Ummat) with 470 votes, Saddam Tufail (Aaj News) with 468 votes, Sohail Rafique (Jang) with 467 votes, Arbab Chandio (Samaa TV) with 465 votes, Kafeeluddin (Nai Baat) with 462 votes, Liaquat Mughal (Morning Special) with 461 votes and Jamshed Gul Bukhari (Jang) with 455 votes.

Amir Lateef (Online News) had been elected unopposed as secretary, Saeed Sarbazi (Business Recorder) as vice president, Shams Kerio (Aaino) as joint secretary and Azhar Hussain (Geo News) as treasurer.
