Two killed in Karachi; 15 suspects arrested

KARACHI: At least, two people were gunned down in separate incidents of firing in Karachi Thursday whereas three suspected target killers were arrested by the police, DawnNews reported.

Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz’s (PML-N) local office bearer was shot dead near Singer Chowrangi in Karachi’s Korangi Industrial area. He was targeted while he was on his way home after dropping his children to school.

Meanwhile, a man named Tajuddin sustained severe injuries due to firing in North Karachi area near Dou Minute Chowrangi. Later, he succumbed to his wounds in a hospital.

According to Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP-Central) Amir Farooqui, the New Karachi Industrial police arrested three suspected target killers allegedly involved in the killings of 12 people, including two policemen, as well as 150 incidents of street crimes.

Moreover, police also recovered arms from the possession of the arrested suspects.

Rangers arrested more than 15 suspects including members of a political party during an operation in Liaquatabad.

Rangers took into custody more than 10 activists belonging to a political party, including candidates for the upcoming local body elections, in the operation.

Also, five more persons arrested by the Rangers near the office of a political party in Korangi No 2-1/2.

The arrested persons were taken to an undisclosed location.

Karachi, the largest metropolitan city of Pakistan, is riddled with targeted killings, gang wars, kidnappings for ransom, extortion and terrorism. Targeted operations led by Rangers’ forces with the support of police are ongoing in the city under a directive issued by the federal government against criminals already identified by federal, military and civilian agencies.
