LAHORE, Nov 20: Two initial phases of the under-construction Lahore Sanitary Landfill Project (LSLP) at Lakhodair have been completed.

Work on LSLP was commenced on Oct 1 under the consultancy of Nespak with a target to complete it till May next year, said a spokesperson for the Lahore Waste Management Company (LWMC) here on Wednesday.

Excavation of the landfill area was completed by using heavy machinery under the supervision of renowned landfill engineer and project director of Turkish Contractor Company, CEVKA, Mr Frat, with the assistance of 50 professionals including three site engineers and five sub engineers.

Meanwhile, LWMC Managing Director Waseem Ajmal Chaudhary said the LSLP would cost Rs1.29 billion and would prove to be a trendsetter in the solid waste management systems in Pakistan by transforming our ways of waste treatment and disposal.
