Blast near Imambargah in Karachi injures one

KARACHI: A blast occurred near an Imambargah situated in Karachi Shadman Town No 2 area early on Friday injuring at least one person whereas three people were killed and another injured on Thursday in separate incidents of violence, DawnNews reported.

TV reports quoted police officials as saying that unknown motor-cycle riding persons hurled a hand grenade from an bridge near a group of policemen deployed for security at an Imambargah situated in Shadman Town No 2 area near Nagan Chowrangi of Karachi.

At least one person, who was a policeman, was reportedly injured as a result of the blast.

Rescue and security teams, reached the site of incident.

The wounded person was rushed to Abbasi Shaheed hospital for treatment.

Security forces cordoned off the area after the blast and the Bomb Disposal Squad began a search operation as a probe into the incident went underway.

The Majlis-i-Wahdat-i-Muslimeen (MWM) condemned the attack on the Imambargah.

In another unrelated incident, a member of one of Lyari's gangs was killed when a rival gang member fired an Awan rocket near the Lyari General Hospital in Karachi's Lyari area.

The rocket exploded with a huge bang causing fear and panic among area residents. Periodic incidents of gunfire continued after the killing of the gang-member.

Another two persons, including a woman, were killed and another wounded in a gun-firing incident near Malir Wireless Gate area of the city.

The condition of the wounded persons was reported as critical by hospital sources.

Moreover, police sources said that the incident was a result of a personal feud and that the person who had opened fire had been arrested.

Earlier during the day six alleged militants belonging to the proscribed Lashkar-e-Jhangvi (LeJ) were killed during an exchange of fire with personnel from the Crime Investigation Department (CID) of police during a targeted operation in Karachi’s Mauripur area.
