ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court Monday ordered the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to hold election for the post of its chairman on November 2, DawnNews reported.

IHC judge Justice Shaukat Siddiqi heard the case pertaining to the election for the position of PCB chairman.

During the hearing, Justice Siddiqi remarked that interim PCB chairman Najam Sethi’s term had expired on October 18. The court ordered fresh elections for the post of PCB chairman to be held on November 2, adding that if the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) was not prepared to conduct the election, then it would be held under the supervision of the Registrar High Court.

The court moreover rejected ECP’s request which sought more time to hold the election and ruled that it would be held under the supervision of the PCB secretary. It also ordered for advertisements in newspapers to create awareness amongst people regarding the PCB election.

Justice Siddiqi moreover questioned as to how the ECP could claim that it did not have the mandate to hold the PCB election when it had conducted the Pakistan Engineering Council election.

The court also concluded its contempt of court notice petition against Sethi and said he should think before speaking. It moreover said that the PCB chairman was an employee of a media group and questioned as to how he could sell rights to broadcast cricket matches to a TV channel.
