LAHORE: Harbanspura police arrested a youth on suspicion of attempted rape of an eight-year-old girl in Harbanspura area on Saturday.

Police said the girl, a resident of Gulshan Park, was playing outside home when her neighbour Rizwan, 20, lured her in the morning and took her inside his rented house.

The girl screamed which alerted other tenants of the same house. The girl was rescued while the suspect fled the scene.

Locals alerted the police who captured the suspect after some effort.

Cantonment SP (Operations) Umer Riaz told Dawn that Rizwan, who lived along with his father in the rented portion, took the girl inside the home to commit the offence, but he failed.

He said Rizwan, who runs a small shop in the same locality, was captured by police from City railway station after he was trying to board a train destined for Sheikhupura.

The SP said a case under sections 376 and 511 of the Pakistan Penal Code was registered against the suspect.

FAISALABAD: A 12-year-old girl ‘S’ was allegedly raped in Kanjwani, Tandlianwala, in the limits of Garh police on Saturday.

SSP (investigation) Rai Zamirul Haq told Dawn that the police came to know about the incident through a call somebody made to the Rescue 15.

He said the Garh SHO rushed to the spot and shifted the girl to hospital.

He said some of the suspects had been taken into custody for interrogation, however, statement of the girl would help police trace the criminals. He said police were not sure about the number of gangsters.

The girl had been referred to the Allied Hospital from Kanjwani Rural Health Centre.

The chief minister has sought report of the incident from Regional Police Officer Javeed Islam.

Punjab Health Minister Khalil Tahir Sindhu inquired after the girl at the Allied Hospital.

Talking to media after visiting the victim, the minister said the girl was stable.

City Police Officer Abdul Razzaq Cheema said a police team had been activated to nab the criminal(s).

KASUR: A six-year-old boy was allegedly raped here on Saturday at Sandha Nizam in Ganda Dingh police precincts. Police have arrested the accused.

Accused M. Nazim took ‘SM’ to nearby corn fields and allegedly raped him. Police arrested the accused and rushed the victim to DHQ Hospital where he was stated to be in critical condition.
