'Minnows' Zimbabwe jolt Pakistan with historic Test victory

HARARE: Zimbabwe took two wickets in three balls to seal its first win over Pakistan in 15 years on the final day of the second Test on Saturday, claiming victory by a narrow 24 runs to draw the series 1-1.
Tendai Chatara finished with 5-61 as Pakistan was bowled out for 239 soon after lunch, short of the 264 it needed to sweep the series 2-0.
The Zimbabweans struck at the end as Junaid Khan was out caught off Chatara and two balls later last man Rahat Ali was run out in a mix up that sealed Pakistan's fate. Pakistan captain Misbah-ul-Haq finished 79 not out in a losing effort.
“Finally beating a world-class team is a wonderful feeling, especially for our bowlers. We haven't had a bowling coach in six months, so massive credit must go to them. Everyone contributed, but there is still room for improvement,” an elated Zimbabwe captain Brendan Taylor said a TV interview after the game.
Misbah was full of praise for the home side.
“Zimbabwe deserved the victory, they played excellent cricket in the first Test and this one. Even from the start they were positive, they had us under pressure throughout the game,” Misbah said.
“The positives for us is the bowlers, but batting is a little bit of a worry, the batsmen have to learn from their mistakes. You can't win Test matches scoring 20s and 30s.”
The victory was Zimbabwe's third against Pakistan in tests, but first since 1998.
Their last win over one of the world's top test-playing nations was against India in 2001, though they have beaten Bangladesh on four occasions since, the last a crushing 335-run victory in April.

Had it not been Yunus Khan heroics in the first test, the scoreline would have read 0-2 for Pakistan.....Minnow Zimbabawe have shown Minnow Pakistan their place.....Pakistan should now tour Bangladesh....I bet they will struggle to win even a single game. Hats off to Zimbabwe they are far better than these Pakistanis and Bangladeshis.....Remember this is the same Zimbabwe side which was trounced 0-5 by the second string Indian team just a couple of Months back....That shows how much gap now exists in the quality of India and Pakistan Cricketers....Pakistan should take a break from International Cricket.

Insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results. Einstein could very well have been witnessing this test match when he said that. Pakistan keeps investing in past as opposed to investing in future. It is not what you know but who you know that will take you anywhere in Pakistan. Will Pakistan ever bounce back from this embarrassing loss? Of course, they will. But will Pakistan finally strategize, address the core problems, and plan for its future instead of pointing fingers at this player and that player? I am not sure.

Well done Najam Sethi, well done Sharif Brothers, sons, nephews, in laws, all family run country. Most of all well done Arsalan and His Chief Justice father, great performance. Country without Insaaf and justice is destined to worse status in International community. Najam Sethi knows his selection was not based on cricket performance it was based on election rigging so he is concentrating on making plans for rigging in Punjab local bodies elections and not worried about cricket. Chief Justice is there to protect all nepotism and rigging like he has done in last 8 years of his mis rule.

On a serious note, one could lose to Zimbabwe in the past when they had world class players of the likes of Andy/Grant Flower, Heath Streak, Henry Olonga, Alistair Campbell, Murray Goodwin, etc. But the present Zimbabwe team is so weak that it hardly deserve the Test status. So, losing against them needs to be seriously evaluated by the PCB for avoiding such disgrace in the future.

It is highly disgraceful, totally illogical, absolutely unwarranted and grossly uncalled for that the 'green-shirts' have lost the second cricket test match by 24 runs at Harare against Zimbabwe, the so-called 'minnows' of global test cricket club.
Although Misbah-ul-Haq, the skipper of the Pakistani team stayed unbeaten at 79 not out while all of his other teammates lost their wickets in the fourth inning, the overall performance of the team was not only shameful, it was also unprofessional and unbecoming of test cricketers, to say the least. All they had to do was to keep their heads down in the center as they say in cricket and chase a modest score of 264 runs in the fourth and last inning of the test match in order to sweep the two match series by 2-0. Nevertheless, they miserably failed to do so.
The captaincy of Misbah-ul-Haq since day one in general has not been inspirational and charismatic like that of his predecessors especially the great Imran Khan. If the Pakistani cricket team and its current skipper in particular has to show better on-the-field
performance lead like a true team captain, they must develop the necessary skills, powerful grit, great mental and physical toughness and out-standing guts to follow the foot-steps of the legendary Imran Khan. Otherwise, more defeats and more shameful performance could be seen on the horizon by all neutral, third party and independent cricket academics,
experts, players, professionals, fans, umpires, organizers, sponsors, promoters and lovers of the game in the days to come.

"Finally beating a world-class team is a wonderful feeling ....." I think the statement would have been perfect had it not been for the word "world-class", something Pakistan is not. Just like Pakistan's hockey cricket is on its way down as well. It will not be long before Pakistan fails to qualify for the World Cup, just like their friends in the other sports.
The only batsman in the team that is worthy of being world class is Misbah.

Let me be blunt here because somewhere I admired Pakistani cricketers like Wasim Akram and Wasim Raja.
The day Pakistan decided NOT to fairly face the huge problems of terrorists breeding in its FOREGROUND it had decidedly signed the death knell of its own cricket. When the terrorists attacked the Lankan team-- the first reaction of a section of the Pakistani media was that India was behind it. Even the "great" Imran Khan interviewed on India's NDTV gave a great conspiracy said with a straight face, " because only India benefits from this attack on the Lankans it must be behind it."
No team wants to go to Pakistan to play. HOw will you nurture talent? You need to give up your jehadi assets and conspiracy theories once for all and become a "normal country."
Who would not like to see a Pakistani great like Qadir mesmerizing Indian team team on the Lahore pitch. But ALas! WIth jehadi assets intact... it is hardly likely!

Pakistan should get rid of Hafeez, Miandad (Good for nothing), Akram and Whatmore. Bring Mohsin/Tom Moody/Dean Jones as coach, Amir sohail as PCB cheif, Rashid Latif, Zahir Abbas, Inzamam and Saeed anwar as selectors and Mohammad Yousuf as batting coach, Shoaib Akhter as bowling coach but keep Julian as fielding coach.

winning in a test match requires a "TEAM" effort apart from 2 or 3 Pakistan players rest were useless and yet Zimbabwe won because everyone contributed to their team effort three 50s two 5 wkt hauls disciplined bowling alert fielding and adherence to a set plan.

It is a very good result for Pakistan. May be, just may be the senses will pervail now and selectors will stop promoting the corrupt line of selection. Pakistan could easily have lost both the tests but only an extraordinary innings from a single player saved Pakistan in the first match. Now imagine, (1) against the minnows, pakistan could not score 250 in three of the four innings. (2) Zimbabwe won 8 days play out of the total 10

Asad, In the recent past India has more victories overseas also. Only England and Australia series are an exception as the country was looking for right combination after immediate retirement of performing veterans like Dravid and Laxman.
They are close the finding the right combination and sure that they will won more series abroad. They have already shown it in One day series in the recent past at England and West Indies and also in Zimbabwe where 2nd string Indian team played against the hosts and did better than Pakistan.

Scoring few runs like Misbah has done in this series is too little too late. He performance as a captain has always been very poor, even in the last series win against England his performance as a captain was totally unacceptable, Pakistan only won that series because of Saeed Ajmal and Rahman. Test defeat in South Africa was very humiliating after this defeat it can only be said that Pakistan should stop participating in international events to save Pakistan from further disgrace. Even though Pakistan is full of talented players but bad politics and mismanagement has created a disgusting situation beyond imagination. Now Pakistan is down and out in hockey, squash, cricket and other sports/track and field events.

Misbah is a good test batsman but a pathetic captain. It is the captain who decides who plays the match and who sits in pavilion. This loss to Zimbabwe was no shock after disgrace in South Africa where our team failed miserably in all the tests. Misbah has no leadership qualities to inspire the team to get the best out of each player. He cannot take difficult decisions. There was no place for Hafeez in the team. Omer Amin deserved to play in place of Asad Shafiq. I agree batting coach as well as Whatmore need to go.

Its really embrassing and shameful to get defeated by Zimbabwe. Team selection was not up the standard. After 5 down our batting line up gets exposed to tail meaning easy way to get wickets by opposition bowling attack. Atleast there should have been one bowling allrounder at number 8 to give our batting further depth. Playing with only four bowlers is ill-logical meaning extra burden on Saeed Ajmal. One person can'nt matches as cricket is a team game. These days cricket is more about tactics and strategy along utilizing scientific approach.
Pakistan should have played 3 fast bowlers as it would have proved handy and would not have let Zimbabwe set 250 plus target. Lets face reallity Zimbabwe played well and they deserved to win as they were giving thier best and played with dedication. Our team made big mistake by taking them lightly. Its time Misbah should step down as captain and even retire as our team continued to fail. Selectors should resign as they failed to give good players. Complete overhaul of our team and management needs to done so it also applies to PCB as well.

Losing 8 days of play out of total 10 days in two tests and that too to a minnow like Zimbabwe is a shame for PCB, its selection committe and the captain. You go on with selecting players who have failed over decades, you go on to select batsmen with first class in 30s and expect them to achieve landmarks of 45+ averages in tests, but how. When will you stop selecting Faisal Iqbals, Hafeez' and Imran Farhats. When will you send more A-teams to play matches in England, South Africa and Australia? Why didn't Misbah let Hafeez sit out in the 2nd match, was he afraid? Throw people like Moin, Miandad and Intekhab out of the set-up and bring in people who want to let young talent be tried.

any team can win against Pakistan. Pakistan is now the most speculative team with high risk of losing any match. no stability what so ever, which is a pure failure of the board. Celebrating one win is not a real achievement. sustaining a pattern of success or good performance is the best way to analyse the performance of any authority. Pakistan team ia playing like a street junkies. They have one day good on a playing field and on other day they make so much mess, not even showing little maturity. this is because of the lack of sustainability in their performances, all blame goes to the regulatory authority, who can's able to understand the concept of stability in performance and physical as well as mental fitness of players. There is a lot of talent no doubt but we are not here to have a good show some day hoping some master blaster performs. we are here to become a proud nation and proud representatives of Pakistan. cricket is above just a game for most of us and authorities should respect that.

Well Zimbabwe is not that bad team as one thinks. It has good batsmen like Masakadza and Taylor. Some accurate bowlers like Chatara and Vitori plus a decent spinner. Above all if it fields well, it can give many Test playing countries a run for their money

Pakistan doesn't need to panic,they need bring in Umar Akmal,Taufiq Umar,Umar Amin replacing Hafeez,Asad Shafiq,Azhar Ali.Better to replace Adnan Akmal with better batsman keeper if possible.Otherwise he played fine in 1st Test along with Younis Khan.Also couple of new players could be experimented if they are fine in form.Pakistan still has ability to recover.Please make sure wickets are pure turner as Pakistan has best spinning line up in world and could add Zulfiqar Babar .

Just checked cricinfo, India is ranked 3rd in Test cricket, 1st in ODI & 3rd in T20 & is the only team in the world to figure in Top 3 of all type of crickets. Sorry to spoil your day mate but you must check the facts before you express your thoughts...

India is not touring south Africa just because they want to save SRT from humiliation. How can you dishonour international commitments because of one individual. Sachin always plays for himself not for the team. Remember India lost to Bangladesh just because he played defensively to get his 100 international century and let the team lose.

I'm glad the Pakistanis will now not idolize just cricket but will open up their minds to a hundred other sports that are not only more lucrative (on an individual level), have less politics (the PRESIDENT of Pakistan is not the ad-hoc CEO or whatever he is in Cricket, they have much broader mass appeal (football/tennis/rugby anyone), and can improve the chances of our youth getting on the international level (athletics/winter sports/olympic sports/X Games etc)....when will we stop thinking that all sports in the world starts with a C and end with a T !

Are you talking about same number 03 team who was drubbed 4-0 by England and Australia each not long ago?Check you memory man.I think they were beaten by England even on home ground.Have life man,nobody notes No.3 or 4.Its just Number 01 slot which matters,rest all are losers.

Pakistan has beaten same England team 3-0 which had drubbed India 4-0 and England is ahead of India in ranking.By the way even Indian team was beaten by Pakistan team on home ground not long time back.So avoid playing Pakistan .
