GILGIT: Police claim to have arrested the suspected mastermind responsible for killing a police officer and two military personnel investigating the Nanga Parbat killing case in which ten foreign mountaineers were shot dead in Himalayas from Kohistan on Thursday, DawnNews reported.

Earlier on August 6, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Diamer Muhammad Hilal and two army officers Colonel Ghulam Mustafa and Captain Ashfaq Aziz were killed when unknown gunmen opened fire on their convoy in Gilgit-Baltistan’s Chilas area.

The three security men were investigating the killings of nine tourists and their guide in the Himalayas of the Nanga Parbat area. The overnight raid which killed five Ukrainians, three Chinese and a Russian was one of the worst attacks on foreigners in Pakistan in a decade.

Moreover, three officials were reported severely injured in the attack.

According to officials, the arrested man, Hamidullah, was the mastermind behind the firing incident which claimed the lives of the three security men.

Officials moreover added that a search operation was currently underway in Kohistan to arrest two companions of Hamidullah for their alleged involvement in the same attack.
