LAHORE, Sept 11: The Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf, Punjab, has challenged PML-N government’s Local Government Bill 2013 taking a plea that it is unconstitutional to hold local body election on a non-party basis.

This was announced by PTI Punjab President Ejaz Chaudhry, General Secretary Dr Yasmin Rashid, Barrister Bakhtiar Kasuri and MPA Mian Aslam Iqbal while speaking at a news conference at party’s provincial secretariat on Wednesday.

Stating that democracy cannot be strengthened without strong roots, Ejaz Chaudhry said holding local body elections on a non-party basis was an unjust move against the people of Punjab. He said the Jamaat-i-Islami and the PPP would also approach court against the LG Bill 2013 passed by the Punjab Assembly.

Hoping that the PTI will get justice from the Lahore High Court, he said, otherwise the party would approach the Supreme Court. He said the party would also hold peaceful protest demonstrations for the withdrawal of the controversial bill.

Dr Yasmin Rashid said the PTI would not forge any alliance with any political party in the local body elections, however it would collaborate with all parties for a joint strategy to fight against the controversial bill.
