KARACHI: Rangers arrested four members of an extortion gang on Monday, while conducting an operation in Safoora Goth and Lashari Goth, DawnNews reported.

The rangers confiscated uniforms of the police and rangers, bullet proof vests, explosives and other weapons during the operation.

According to a Rangers spokesperson, the suspects are part of the Lyari Gang War and have been involved in various extortion schemes. He added that they would use the Rangers and police uniforms while conducting their crimes.

So far, they have extorted about 100,000 rupees from the residents, the spokesperson said.

Karachi, which is riddled with terror attacks, extortion and kidnappings, has been undergoing a targeted operation in recent days, after the federal government approved action against lawlessness and terrorism in the Sindh's provincial capital, aimed at ridding it of the various gangs working the streets.
