I WOULD like to highlight the mushrooming pre-schools and montessories in Karachi. It has become a business that some of these institutions have adopted, charging enormous fees from desperate parents aiming to get admissions in regular schools.

Some of these pre-schools admit toddlers about the age of eight months in their so-called mother-children programme. Moreover, in their quest to make more money, some of these pre-schools neglect the kind of education they are imparting.

The teachers are often young girls untrained to handle young children. As a result, the children suffer at the hands of these teachers.

I would like to request parents to raise their voice against the commercial pre-schools that are exploiting them and their children.

I would also like to request all schools to reconsider and relax their criteria of accepting only two-year-olds or younger children who have attended a pre-school before coming to their school for admission to nursery or prep classes.
