PESHAWAR, Aug 29: Police on Thursday arrested two accused involved in extortion and sending threatening text messages and calls to business community for the past some months.Speaking at a news conference here, SP city Ismail Khattak said that the accused Ghulam Rasool and Abdur Rauf of Bajuar Agency were arrested from different places.

The official said the extortionists had, through a telephone call, asked a trader, Jan Rehman of Wazir Bagh, Peshawar to give them Rs5 million or face target killing or kidnapping.

Mr Khattak said that the accused had already received extortion money from different people, especially traders, causing unrest and fear among the business community.

The official said a case against the extortionists was registered at Agha Mir Jani police station under sections 387, 506, and 109/25 PPC and the Telegraph Act.

BOMBS DEFUSED: The bomb disposal unit personnel on Thursday defused three improvised explosive devices planted on Shamshato Road in suburbs of Peshawar.

A senior BDU official said the bombs had been planted near FR Chowki in limits of Urmar police station, but they successfully defused the explosives. — Bureau Report
