LARKANA, Aug 29: The final post-mortem report on the death of Jeay Sindh Qaumi Mahaz chairman Bashir Ahmed Qureshi concurred with the conclusion reached by two earlier reports that Mr Qureshi had died a natural death caused by a ischaemic heart disease, it was reliably learnt on Thursday.

The report issued by the police surgeon and medical superintendent of the Chandka Medical College Hospital (CMCH), Dr Safiullah Abbasi, who headed a five-member committee, was sent on Aug 21 to the SHO of Rehmatpur police station.

The two-page report obtained by Dawn concluded “it was a natural cause of death in ordinary course of nature”.

Dr Abbasi confirmed sending the final report to the SHO who had asked for doing an autopsy through inquest report No.340 dated April 7, 2012. The five-member committee had endorsed findings of the 15-member committee earlier formed by the provincial health department and the report of a laboratory of the United Kingdom, he said.

According to the report, the provincial health department had formed the 15-member committee in the wake of Mr Qureshi’s death to analyse specimen of viscera recovered from his body.

The committee examined viscera from April 13 to 17, 2012 at the office of the director of laboratories and chemical examiner in Karachi for a chemical analysis, and for histopathology at the department of pathology at the Dow Medical College, Karachi, and issued the first report on April 17 last year, said the report.

The committee met again on April 25 to analyse the report of chemical examination of viscera and other samples by an internationally reputed laboratory of the United Kingdom, it said.

All the members at the meeting unanimously resolved that for qualitative as well as quantitative tests for poisoning with emphasis on insecticide, pesticide with histopathological examination of the viscera should also be performed to satisfy relatives as well as ends of justice, said the report.

The five-member committee held a meeting on April 25, 2013 at the office of the director laboratories and chemical examiner Chemico-Bacteriological laboratory after receiving the final report of the meeting of the 15-member committee and unanimously concluded that “Mr Qureshi died as a result of a long-standing ischaemic heart disease”. The final report concludes: “We the undersigned unanimously agree with opinion of above mentioned 15-member committee’s report and depending on its findings declare that death of Bashir Ahmed Qureshi has occurred as a result of longstanding ischaemic heart disease i.e natural death in ordinary course of nature.”

The committee comprised Dr Rahim Bakhsh Baloch, former medico-legal officer at CMCH, Dr Abdul Qayoom Rajpar, assistant police surgeon at CMCH, Dr Kanwal Kumar, associate professor at the department of forensic medicine and toxicology at Ghulam Mohammad Mahar Medical College, Dr Ghulam Qadir Kaheri, professor at the department of forensic medicine and toxicology at CMC and Dr Safiullah Abbasi, police surgeon, and medical superintendent of CMCH.
