MANSEHRA, Aug 12: Two women of a family drowned in the Kunhar River in Balakot on Monday.

Local police station’s chief Mohammad Sabir told reporters that the incident occurred when the family from Gujranwala was picnicking on the bank of the river.

He said Asma, 20, and Muktiar Bibi, 40, slipped on a rock into the water and drowned.

Mr Sabir said divers fished out the bodies from the river and shifted them to Civil Hospital, Balakot.

He said police later handed over the bodies to the family, which took them to Gujranwala for burial.

TEACHERS BOOKED FOR FRAUD: The anti-corruption establishment, Mansehra has booked five senior teachers for Rs6 million fraud.

“We have booked Munir Hussain, Bashir Ahmad, Zaheer Hussain Shah, Taj Mohammad and Mohammad Faraz for getting Rs6 million illegally transferred in the bank accounts of 35 teachers from the account of education department without entitlement or increment in 2012,” ACE assistant director Ijaz Ahmad told reporters here on Monday.

Mr Ijaz said the accused received half of the amount.

He said raids were being conducted to arrest the accused.

The ACE assistant director said 21 teachers had returned Rs4 million to the education department’s account after being asked by the ACE, while the rest had promised to follow suit.

He said the teachers failing to return the ill-gotten money would face legal action.

In charge of the ACE circle Ijaz Khan, who was also in attendance, said range officer of Shergar forest range Shah Hussain had been booked for receiving Rs0.7 million from timber smugglers and depositing it in his bank account.

He said ACE had also found the range officer guilty of tampering with the record.

The ACE officer, however, said the accused had secured transit bail from a local court in the case.
