Relaxed approach not to work for Karachi law and order, says Nisar

KARACHI: During his first visit to the provincial capital of Sindh after taking oath as Interior Minister at the centre, Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan on Monday said Karachi’s law and order situation could not be handled in a relaxed manner.

Speaking to media representatives upon his arrival at the Jinnah International Airport, the interior minister strongly emphasised on the need to assess the law and order situation in Sindh, particularly in its capital, adding that he had undertaken the trip to enhance his understanding of the security situation in Karachi.

Nisar said it was the responsibility of the provincial government to ensure law and order in the city, but ways of enhancing coordination between the centre and the province in order to improve security would also be discussed during his visit.

Moreover, Nisar said he was unaware as to who was spreading rumours about the possibility of imposing governor’s rule in Sindh.

Responding to a question, the interior minister said he would hold talks with Pakistan Muslim League – Functional’s chief Pir Pagara regarding the upcoming presidential election and seek his advice on the matter.

The minister is likely to hold meetings with Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah and Governor Dr Ishratul Ibad.

He will also preside over a meeting of heads and senior officials of security and law-enforcement agencies in the province.

The interior minister’s visit to Karachi acquired significance because of a recent controversy over his last month’s statement in which he reportedly ‘warned’ the Sindh government to improve security situation.

The PPP and the MQM protested against the statement, terming it interference in the affairs of the province.

The minister later clarified the National Assembly that his statement had been reported out of context and he had not given any warning to the Sindh government. He also said that the federal government would fully cooperate with provincial governments and provide every assistance whenever desired to help them maintain law and order.

Karachi has been a victim of incidents of terrorism and target killings for many years and the situation remains unchanged in several parts of the city.

The situation was initiated by MQM some 30 years ago and what we see today is it's fall-out.The recent tug-of war going-on between the Qabza groups in a Plaza near Wireless gate, Karachi is one example. All this started from Al-Karam Square, Liaqatabad, Karachi and the pattern is identical in the city today. So ? Mr Nisar ?

Where every mighty in the country is unanswerable then how can peace be established and justice ensured. How can things be put right. In this country there is only Allah Mian who can hold up all the worldly mightiness responsible and punish harshly for all their wrongs and atrocities. But it is not certain when may be today or tomorrow there is delay but not the darkness..

Mr. Nisar should take notice of law and order situation in Karachi seriously. The action needed for killings of about 11000 during last five years tenure and about two thousands during these current months when government came in power after election. All such need to check role of law enforcing agencies that failed to produce killers of large scale Sunni targeted killings having religious scholars, innocent people and even Mr. Aurangzeb Farooqui was several times attacked, his several companions died. Who are those and why not yet apprehended? All such need to have just inquiry and action. Secondly there is spreading sectarian hatred, some of Karachi based print/electronic media is encouraging and spreading such culture which is contrary to Hanafi doctrine as well as against natural justice such as the question of progeny of prophet which already settled by Grand Caliphs and why it is being produced having negative view? No prophet came to put forward his socalled progeny to rule and to deny able and wise people of their rights and to deny the sacrifices of others. People do not accept AYAAT E MUBAHILA which are being produced on media and media several times deny the other side view, people noticing suspicious silence which spreading hatred - I hope your government will take notice. Also this is above than extremism to disturb peoples lives by processions protests at public places for the happenings in outside Pakistan. Thirdly the Muslims are not the grave worshipers, there is sectarian strife since long all it need either to have free discussions by including all factions and thought people or to be banned the praises of all thousand year old dead people. But media should place such material ahead people take care of their own and engage themselves in honest working for their own survival and family. This is not honesty and right way to overlook facts. I hope will be taken seriously.

The PPP is part of the problem. Have local bodies elections. Then establish governors rule and clean up karachi. Thereafter free karachi from rangers. Karachi police needs to be community based, depoliticed and given a better service structure and resources. Police ambudsman need to function so that police excesses can be restrained. Maybe I am day dreaming????

Yet another eye wash by Ch Nisar. As the case has been in the past where Rehman Malik took umpteen amount of such trips to Karachi only for the situation to get more worst. Nothing will ever come out of his visit to Karachi.
