LAHORE, April 21: The Lahore Waste Management Company has planned a campaign to sensitise the masses about their crucial role in keeping their city litter-free.

LWMC spokesperson Memoona Arslan said on Sunday more than 2,500 new bins would be installed in commercial markets and at important places under the week-long ‘Litter-Free Lahore’ campaign that would be formally launched on Monday (today) on the eve of the World Earth Day.

The campaign also included campus clean up activity at FC College, awareness seminar, art and photography competitions in educational institutes, signing of Litter-Free Lahore Resolution by 500,000 Lahorites, Litter Warden Day, talks shows, awareness activities in commercial markets and text messages for public guidance.

An LWMC communication team along with its volunteers and its Youth Club would take active part in the campaign. Celebrities would be approached to make them part of the campaign, he said.

The campaign would continue till May 3 during which hundreds of private and public schools, colleges and universities besides art schools would be engaged.

The spokesperson said: “The objective of the campaign is to bring about the much-needed change in the behaviour of residents. We clean city, deploy staff and modern machinery and carry out all the required cleaning operations, but we cannot have desired results till people at large cooperate and make all operations successful.

“In order to ensure public’s ownership of cleaning arrangements, we intend to reach as many people of various walks of life as we can. We appeal to Lahorites to join this campaign with us on roads, signals, in institutes, mosques, churches, markets, parks and other recreational places and prove themselves as those Lahorites who love Lahore and care for it by keeping it clean.”
