ISLAMABAD, July 18: The notification regarding the posting of the new inspector general and the deputy inspector general (security) in the Islamabad police created confusion as the appointments were made without first vacating the two posts.

The establishment division on July 16 appointed Sikandar Hayat as the IGP and Jan Mohammad as the DIG security. But the notification was issued without first posting out IGP Bani Amin Khan and DIG Tahir Alam Khan.

Mr Hayat is currently posted at the Pakistan embassy in Riyadh as a minister and is likely to assume the charge on Monday.

It may be noted that the names of Sikandar Hayat, Dilawar Hayat and Mohammad Suleman were sent to the Prime Minster Secretariat for the selection of the IGP.

DIG Jan Mohammad is currently serving in the National Highways and Motorway Police. A few days ago, his services were handed over to the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa police but he succeeded to influence his transfer and get the post of DIG security Islamabad.

Sources in the establishment division and police said Bani Amin was holding two offices - DIG operation and the IGP. He was getting salary and other benefits as the DIG and also working as the IGP since 2010 as a current charge.

The sources said the outgoing IGP Khan and the DIG were verbally asked to vacate their offices. However, they kept on waiting for the notification.

On Thursday, the establishment division made Bani Amin an officer on special duty (OSD). As a result, the post of the DIG operation also fell vacant.

The capital police have three posts of grade 20 (DIG). There is a possibility that DIG Tahir Alam Khan or DIG Jan Mohammad will be given the charge of DIG operation.

The sources said the issue to post out SSP Yasin Farooq was delayed as he wanted a choice posting in the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) which was denied by the interior ministry.

SSP operation Lahore Dr Mohammad Rizwan was interviewed and selected by the interior minister for the post of SSP operation. But SSP Farooq has not vacated the office.
