LIVING in Karachi is different from living in other parts of Pakistan. One thing is certain in Karachi and that is uncertainty. We were expecting that the caretaker government would control the law and order situation and provide a peaceful environment, but it is behaving like a carefree government. Now we know that one blast in any part of Karachi will be the cause of death of innocent citizens and announcement of a strike call by political parties.

A few minutes after getting the news of strike, transport associations, the business community and private school owners’ associations confirm their support and make the strike successful.

Although it takes a few hours for all these activities to happen, our caretaker government does not move. I do not know who our enemy is: those who kill our innocent people, those who give a call for strikes or those who take care of their own interest in the name of caretakers?

It is my request to the caretaker government, if it cannot handle the situation of Karachi, it must inform its residents to stay at home till May 11 and not to get involved in any kind of social, economical and educational activities till the day of elections or even the day when it hands over all the responsibilities to the new government.

The caretakers should also close all educational institutions till the announcement of the result of elections. This way they will save us from being frustrated and an uncertain situation.
