ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Interior Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan on Sunday invited political leaders to attend a meeting on national security to be held on July 12.

The minister telephoned Jamaat-i-Islami (JI) chief Munawar Hassan, Pakistan Muslim League-Q chief Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain, Leader of the Opposition in National Assembly Syed Khursheed Ahmed Shah of PPP, Muttahida Qaumi Movement leader Farooq Sattar, Pakhtunkhwa Milli Awami Party chief Mehmood Khan Achakzai and Balochistan National Party-Mengal (BNP-M) leader Sardar Akhtar Mengal.

He extended an invitation to them on behalf of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif to attend the meeting.

Sharif, on Wednesday, decided to convene the meeting, which is expected to evolve a national strategy to curb increasing militancy and to address the overall law and order and security situation in the country.

The prime minister, who is currently in China, will attend the meeting upon his scheduled arrival in the country.

Several political parties have been urging the new government to call an all party meeting on the issue.
