CHARSADDA, July 1: Local ulema and religious scholars have declared that Islam supports natural birth spacing.

They were attending a district population welfare seminar on ‘Family planning in light of Islam’ here the other day.

Chaired by Maulana Zahoorul Haq of tehsil Tangi, the event was attended by district welfare officer, Charsadda Haji Bakhtiar, DDP Sanaullah, DDPW Waqar Akhunzada, Maulana Noorullah Jan Farooqi, Maulana Aminullah and Maulana Ashraf Ali Sherpao.

The panelists said Islamic teachings wanted a woman to feed her newborn babies for two years, which was a natural way of birth spacing and that the medical science confirmed it.

They said if a woman didn’t feed her babies, then they all could develop health problems.

The panelists said there was no harm in giving birth to many children but birth spacing was a must for healthy mother and children.

They said ulema should spread the message of family welfare to the people through every forum available to them.
