ATTOCK, May 21: The district police headquarters on Tuesday again postponed the recruitment of 182 police constables and this time too for indefinite period.

The decision has been taken on the directive of the Punjab government. The fresh recruitment process began on May 12, and the last for submission of forms was May 18.

According to police, a total 3,849 application forms were issued to the intending candidates against Rs25 each, which generated Rs96,457 to the district police headquarters.

Till the last date of submission, 3,045 applications had been received, they said. But the recruitment was postponed, causing disappointment among the applicants for third time, the sources said.

Recruitment had already been postponed twice since the start of the process in June 2012, in which 6,100 applicants suffered. At that time the district police’s recruitment branch had received over Rs122,000 revenue by selling application form for Rs20 each, sources said.

With the postponement of third recruitment process, the figure of total applicants has reached to 9,145.

Besides traveling expenses, each application cost over Rs1,000 to the candidate in shape of documents attestations/verification, affidavit on stamp papers.

Central Police office (CPO) Punjab had first announced the schedule for recruitment of police constables in June18, 2012 and in this regard formed a three-member committee under the Chairmanship of DIG Ghulam Rasool Zahid.

But the district police postponed the recruitment for indefinite period n June 25. However, after two months, CPO again resumed the process on August 9, 2012 and invited new applications in addition to previous ones.

But this time too the applicants were disappointed as the CPO again postponed the recruitment process on August 24.

However, the police department has earned Rs 218,457 in the last three unsuccessful police recruitment’s schedules in shape of application fee, the sources added.— Correspondent
