Student shot dead

RAWALPINDI, Aug 14: A student was gunned down and his father injured in their house by a gunman on Tuesday morning.

Faisal Bashir, 16, has recently done his matric, was shot dead in his sleep in Sadar Barooni police area in the wee hours of Tuesday, police said.

According to the family, they had no enmity with anyone which could be the possible motive behind the murder.

Police said the unidentified man entered the house after scaling the wall.

On hearing gunshots, his father Bashir Ahmed woke up and saw his son Faisal lying on his bed with bullet wound and the man with pistol in his hand running towards the rooftop of the house.

When the murderer saw Bashir chasing him he opened fire on him, who was latet removed to the District Headquarters Hospital where his condition is stated to be critical.

The dead body was handed over to the family after the postmortem. — Staff Reporter

Explosives seized

TAXILA, Aug 14:  Police on Tuesday foiled a possible terrorist plot on Independence Day in Taxila and seized huge quantity of explosive material and arrested a man belonging to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Police said that acting on a tip off, a police party headed by Inspector Sardar Shakeel Ahmed intercepted a car (D-2918) and during search recovered 200-kg of explosives and arrested Guncha Gull, a resident of Peshawar. A case has been registered against the accused under explosive act. — Correspondent

Robbers on looting spree

RAWALPINDI, Aug 14: A man was robbed of cash, laptop and other valuables by two gunmen in Pirwadhai while a family was looted in the Airport police area, police said on Tuesday.

Gull Mohammad said in his complaint that he was on his way home in a rickshaw when two motorbike riders intercepted him in Khayaban-i-Sir Syed and snatched Rs40,000, $100, a laptop and two cellphones from him.

In another incident, a family was robbed of cash and gold ornaments after four robbers forced their way into their house in the Airport police area.

Mohammad Abdullah told police that somebody rang the doorbell of his house late Monday night.

He said when he opened the door, he found four persons standing outside. They forced their way into the house and held the inmates hostage before looting.—Staff Reporter
