LAHORE: During the hearing of Sialkot shootout case, on Wednesday, Justice Mazhar Iqbal Sidhu of Lahore High Court (LHC) took notice of the irregularities of the jail administration and said that with the help of prison officials, hash and heroin are being brought to the jails whereas female prisoners are being subjected to forced prostitution., according to a news report in the Daily Times.
According to the news report in the Daily Times, Justice Sidhu further commented that resourceful prisoners are paying exorbitant sums of money to move in and out of the prison.
Justice Sidhu took notice of the deteriorating situation during the proceedings of an appeal pertaining to the acquittal of police officers who were allegedly involved in the Sialkot shootout on July 25, 2003. The shootout killed three civil judges and five prisoners.
The families of the deceased judges claimed that the arm and ammunition were made available to the responsible culprits with the help and support of the jail staff.
Former superintendent of jail Sikandar Hayat said that drugs are provided to the prisoners however the supplied amount is generally very small. He also claimed that the authorities are trying to end this ‘trade’ within the boundaries of the prison.
Hayat said that the allegations pertaining to forcing female prisoners into prostitution are baseless and false.
