Section 144 sought

RAWALPINDI, March 4: City District Government Rawalpindi (CDGR) has recommended imposing ban on dumping of hospital and clinical waste in the open, service stations, washing of houses, scrap dealers, garbage dumping on roads and plots to avoid spread of dengue fever.

CDGR’s Municipal Services Department called upon District Coordination Officer (DCO) Saqib Zafar to impose Section 144 in this regard for next two months.

In a letter to the DCO, District Officer Dr Mazhar Azeem said the spread of dengue virus would create panic in the district.

He said the department had surveyed the city and found that most of the private hospitals and clinics were dumping clinical waste along the roads and streets which would cause spread of dengue virus in the city. — A Reporter

Man, sister looted

RAWALPINDI, March 4: A man and his sister were robbed of cash and gold jewellery by two motorbike riders as they were returning from a wedding ceremony in Satellite Town, police said on Sunday.

Zeeshan Shamim, a resident of D-Block Satellite Town, reported to New Town police that two motorbike riders blocked his way and held him and his sister hostage at gunpoint and forced them to give up three gold bangles, a pair of gold earrings, two gold rings, a digital camera and Rs18,000 and later escaped from the scene.

Meanwhile, in another incident, three gunmen lifted a Toyota car from Westridge. — Staff Reporter

‘Unhygienic’ meat seized

RAWALPINDI, March 4: A special team of veterinary officials led by Sihala slaughterhouse general manager Dr Arshad Ahmed raided different markets on Sunday.

The team seized 370kg of meat from Chittian Hattian which they suspected was ‘unhygienic’ and lodged an FIR against two accused with Waris Khan police station.

The team revealed that the butchers had brought unhygienic and rotten meat from outside the city and were selling it in open market. — A Reporter

Six persons booked

ATTOCK, March 4: Six persons were booked by Hazro police in a double murder case as they were suspected of killing a woman and her daughter over an old enmity.

Police sources said Zara Bibi, a resident of Bahadur Khan village along with her daughter Nosheen Bibi went to district jail on Feb 28 to meet her husband, Mehmund Khan. Both the women could not return home. Their relatives reported to the police about the matter. Meanwhile, bodies of both the women were found lying near Ghazi Barotha Hydropower channel on March 1. — Correspondent

Ceremony postponed

RAWALPINDI, March 4: On the directions of Punjab government, City District Government Rawalpindi (CDGR) postponed the laptops distribution ceremony scheduled to be held on March 6.

The ceremony was to be held at Fatima Jinnah Women University (FJWU) and PML-N Chief Nawaz Sharif’s daughter Maryam Nawaz was to distribute 2,500 laptops among the students. — A Reporter
