QUETTA: Pakistan lodged a strong protest with Afghanistan and the Nato-led International Security Assistance Force (Isaf) on Tuesday over the kidnapping and killing of two Pakistani tribesmen and demanded an inquiry and punishment to those responsible for the incident.

Afghan forces had kidnapped the tribesmen during a raid on the house of one in Badini border area in Qila Saifullah district last week and killed them. Their bodies were handed over to tribal elders of the area by Afghan officials on Monday.

According official sources, the protest was lodged at a tripartite meeting held in the border town of Chaman. Pakistan was represented by Div Commander Brigadier Amir Mohammad Barki and Col Shahid Sharif, Isaf by Brig-Gen Martin and Afghanistan by Col Mohammad Ali.

Pakistan said that those Afghan army officers involved in the incident should be brought to the task.

The sources said the Afghan and Isaf officials had sought some time to investigate the incident, but the Pakistani officials said it should be completed in two days.

The Afghan and Isaf officials were shown pictures of the bodies of two tribesmen bearing torture marks and gunshot wounds. They were also handed over evidence of the incident.

The Afghan and Isaf officials assured Pakistan that such incident would not be tolerated in future.
