Pakistan-India expo

RAWALPINDI, Feb 2: Federation of Pakistan Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) on Thursday said business community had agreed to give most favoured nation (MFN) status to India as Rawalpindi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (RCCI) is all set to hold India-Pakistan International Expo at Ludhiana this month.

“The business community has no reservation over the MFN status to India but the government must provide level playing field to local traders,” President FPCCI Senator Ghulam Ali told a gathering of businessmen here at local hotel. He asid Pakistan-India International Expo would begin from February 23 t0 26.— Our Reporter

Energy saving

ISLAMABAD, Feb 2: The Usaid Power Distribution Program on Thursday  organised a workshop for Islamabad Model College for Girls F-6/2 and Islamabad Model College for Girls F-7/2, on gender and effective energy saving habits at home and the workplace.

Female officers from Iesco delivered lectures to the students. Similar sessions have already been arranged in other colleges of Islamabad as well. The agenda of the talk was to enlighten female students about the role and responsibilities of power distribution companies in general and Iesco in particular and to inform students and teachers about effective energy saving habits that can be adopted in homes, schools and workplaces. — A Reporter

Two robbed of cash, valuables

RAWALPINDI, Feb 2: Two persons, including an army officer, were robbed of cash and valuables in separate incidents in Lalazar area here on Thursday, police said.

Major Khuram Shahzad complained to the Civil Lines police that he was returning home in his car (IDJ-7863) when three motorbike riders intercepted him. The culprits snatched a laptop containing important data, Rs2,000 and a mobile phone and escaped.

Mumtaz Hussain was also robbed of cash and a laptop.

Mr Hussain told the police that he was coming home from office when the bandits snatched the computer and Rs29,000 cash from him.— Staff Reporter

16 vehicles recovered

TAXILA, Feb 2: Police on Thursday claimed to have busted two gangs of vehicle snatchers and arrested its five members and recovered 16 cars and motorcycles.

Sub divisional Police officer DSP Raja Taifoor Akhter while addressing press conference here at Taxila police station on Thursday said the vehicles were lifted from different parts of the city.— Correspondent

FIA has Benazir security plan

RAWALPINDI, Feb 2: The police on Thursday provided to the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) the copy of its original security plan for the public meeting of former prime minister Benazir Bhutto at Liaquat Bagh on December 27, 2007.

When contacted, City Police Officer Azhar Hameed Khokhar confirmed that the attested office copy of the security plan had been handed over to the FIA.

“Yes, the original office copy of the security plan, attested by me, was handed over to the FIA as they had demanded for it,” the CPO said. — Staff Reporter
