UMERKOT, Jan 22: Police raided two agricultural farms here on Sunday and freed 105 bonded labourers of them 20 women and 49 children.
The raid was conducted on the directives of Sindh High Court’s Hyderabad circuit bench and the additional district and session judge of Umerkot.
Acting on petitions filed by Pirbhu, Chano Kolhi and Genji Kolhi, the High Court and the session judge directed Umerkot and Bodar Farm police to recover the bonded families.
Police raided the farms of Raja Abdul Ghani and Mohammad Amin Junejo and freed the bonded labourers.
The petitioners said that after last year’s floods the landlords brought them to their farms with the promise of providing food and medicines and forced them to work there. They accused the landlords of using criminals to keep them confined to farms.
