The government has extended the previously stated deadline of December 31, 2011 by one year.

 

ISLAMABAD: The banknotes of Rs5 denomination will remain in circulation till Dec 31, 2012, the government said on Monday.

According to an official announcement, Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani has acceded to the request of the public on the recommendations of the State Bank and finance ministry and approved the one-year extension in the deadline for the note’s exchange.

The earlier deadline was Dec 31, 2011.

The government has already extended the deadline for the exchange of Rs500 (bigger size) banknote till Sept 30, 2012.—Our Reporter
