Dispute claims four lives

MARDAN, Oct 16: Four persons, including three of a family, were killed when their rivals allegedly opened fire at them over a marriage dispute at Lund Khwar village here on Sunday.

Police said Raza Khan, his wife and four-year-old daughter, Arfat Bibi, and an unknown person were shot dead after a dispute with the accused over marriage of their daughter.

The police registered case against accused Mohamaday, Said Wali and Noor Said and started investigation. The culprits fled from the crime scene.—APP

ANP leader passes away

BATKHELA, Oct 16: ANP provincial vice-president and former MPA Nek Amal Khan died after protracted illness in Dargai Malakand on Sunday. He was 83.

Nek Amal Khan was elected to the provincial assembly on ANP ticket in 1990 and 1997 from Malakand. He was the father of ANP Malakand general secretary Shafiullah Khan.

He will be laid to rest at his village graveyard in Sakhakot in Dargai on Monday (today). —Correspondent

Man killed on road

BUNER, Oct 16: A man was killed when a car knocked him down in Sultanwas on Pir Baba-Daggar road on Sunday.

The victim, Noroz Khan, was standing on the roadside outside his home on Pir Baba road when the car crushed him. The car caught fire after the crash.

The car driver, namely Qabil Shah, escaped from the area after the accident, residents said. The police registered the case. —Correspondent

PTI rally against dearness

KARAK, Oct 16: Pakistan Tehrik-i-Insaf on Sunday took out a rally to protest against the recent increase in prices of electricity and petroleum products.

The protesters led by PTI district organiser Altaf Qadir advocate marched from the party’s office to Baz Mohammad Chowk, carrying placards and banners inscribed with anti-government slogans.

While speaking to the gathering, Altaf Qadir and Noor Payo Khattak said the unbridled hike in the prices of electricity and petroleum products had ruined lives of masses.

They said the frequent increase in the prices of power, petroleum products and other commodities would not improve the financial health of the government. They said the wrong policies of the present rulers were responsible for the plight of the people. —Correspondent

Cricket tournament

GHALANAI, Oct 16: The Kassi cricket club clinched the trophy of the Mohmand youth first T20 cricket tournament by defeating Pagul Kor cricket club in a thrilling final match played at Ghallanai sports stadium on Sunday.

Assistant political agent Baizai Maqsood Hassan Khan was the chief guest while tehsildar Haleemzai Khalid Khan, agency sports officer Saeed Akhtar, local elders, players and spectators were also present.

A total 26 teams from the agency took part in the cricket event wearing colour-kits and using hard balls during the matches.

In the final match Pagul cricket set a target of 70 runs after winning the toss and batting first. In reply the Kassi cricket club achieved the target in last delivery of the match. —Correspondent

Anti-polio camp held

MARDAN, Oct 16: An anti-polio camp was arranged at Takht Bhai for physically disabled and polio affected children on Sunday.

The camp was arranged by Mahboob School of Physiotherapy in collaboration with Habib Physiotherapy Complex where the experts examined more than 200 patients, mostly children.

Dr Mahboob ur Rehman, Dr Aqeel Khan and Dr Imran Khan also extended advises relating to physiotherapy and rehabilitation to the visiting patients besides prescribing them drugs. Patients were given free medicines.Dr Mahboob, chairman Habib Physiotherapy Complex, asked the patients to concentrate on exercise and continue their medicines.

He said they had been offering free physiotherapy and rehabilitation services to the poor patients to make them useful citizens of the society. —Correspondent

Boy killed in road accident

CHARSADDA, Oct 16: A boy was killed and 12 others were injured a when vehicle going in a marriage procession overturned in the Khan Mahi area here on Sunday.

Eyewitnesses said the vehicle skidded off the road in high speed and overturned at Behlola. The victim, identified as Waqas, 12, son of Khurshid, was stated to a nephew of the bridegroom, Ayaz.

The injured were taken to the district headquarters hospital in Charsadda.

Meanwhile, a young man, Numan, committed suicide in the Prang area on Sunday. The police registered a case on the report of the victim’s father Zahir Shah. He told the police Numan was educated but he used to remain upset due to joblessness. —Correspondent

Sports festival ends

TIMERGARA, Oct 16: A night sports festival, which continued for almost one and a half month to promote peace through healthy activities, ended at Saddo here on Sunday.

The second Salim Saifullah Khan night sports festival, organised by youth of Shekolai, Lower Dir, had started in Ramazan.

Briefing journalists after the final match of cricket on Sunday, general secretary of the district cricket association Muslim Khan said 70 cricket and 40 volleyball clubs participated in the festival.

He said all the matches were played under floodlights. The electricity, he said was provided by Saddo grid station.

The final match was played between the new star cricket club Ouch and Ishtiaq cricket club Shekolai, which was won by the latter by three runs. —Correspondent

Land given to PAEC

PESHAWAR, Oct 16: The Chief Minister Ameer Haider Khan Hoti on Sunday approved the sale of 110 Kanal of government land at Germa village to Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission.

The decision was made after receiving an application by the PAEC regarding the need of land for establishing offices, research centre and residential facilities at Germa village.

The government also principally agreed on a lease of 20 kanal of land to Allama Iqbal Open University for its branch offices at Kohat.—APP
