Under-trial prisoner escapes

RAWALPINDI, Sept 12: A handcuffed under-trial prisoner involved in heinous crimes escaped from the police custody from outside the court of area magistrate on Monday.

Muhammad Pervez was arrested by the Sadiqabad police for his alleged involvement in four robbery cases. He was taken to the court of Area Magistrate Chaudhary Ismail Tasleem Akhtar by Sub-Inspector Muhammad Aslam and constables Faisal Shah and Muhammad Asif for the hearing of his case when he escaped from the custody.

A senior police official said: “SI Muhammad Aslam was present inside the court, while constables Faisal Shah and Muhammad Asif were guarding Muhammad Pervez and waiting for his call when he, somehow, managed to escape.”

Despite all-out efforts, the policemen guarding the suspected robber failed to trace him.

However, a case for showing negligence was registered against the sub inspector and two constables with the Civil Lines police. The accused cops are yet to be arrested by the police.— Staff Reporter

Fumigation drive launched

TAXILA, Sept 12: The Hassanabdal Tehsil Municipal Administration (TMA) in collaboration with health authorities launched a fumigation drive on Monday to prevent spread of malaria and dengue virus.

Talking to newsmen, Assistant Commissioner Perviaz Iqbal said that the TMA launched a fogging, insecticide residual spray and awareness campaign in its jurisdiction to avert the outbreak of dengue fever.

He said that the campaign was launched on the directives of the Punjab government and all-out efforts would be made to cover the entire area. “The inner city areas will be given priority where dengue patients were detected during previous years,” he said and added that the special teams had been constituted to ensure door-to-door anti-mosquito spray in all the areas.

He requested the people to dispose of the garbage in the dustbins and collection points of the TMA so that the sanitation staff might remove it properly to avoid breeding of the mosquitoes. He said if a residential area could not be fumigated; the residents should immediately inform the TMA so that a team might be dispatched for the purpose.

He said that the people should cooperate with the TMA teams in making the door-to-door spray campaign a success.— Correspondent

11 outlaws apprehended

ISLAMABAD, Sept 12: The capital police on Monday arrested 11 outlaws from various areas of the city for their alleged involvement in murder, theft cases and for keeping illegal weapons, a police spokesman said.

On the special directive of SP (Rural) Bashir Memon, a Shahzad Town police team headed by Sub-Inspector Arshad Ali nabbed Sajjad Ahmed and Fazal Hussain for their alleged involvement in a murder case.

The Secretariat police apprehended an alleged auto-thief and recovered a stolen motorcycle from him along with cash. Likewise, the Shalimar police nabbed a man for his alleged involvement in a theft case and recovered stolen goods worth thousands of rupees from him.

Similarly, the Bhara Kahu police during patrolling intercepted a man on suspicious and during search a 30-bore pistol was recovered from him.

Meanwhile, Industrial Area and Kohsar police nabbed six beggars during a campaign against the professional alms-seekers.

SSP Islamabad Muhammad Yousuf Malik appreciated the police performance and directed the police officials to further intensify patrolling and vigilance in their respective areas.— Staff Reporter

Poor cleanliness

RAWALPINDI, Sept 12: Poor cleanliness in Dhok Elahi Bux union council-42 is creating problems for residents of the area and they have demanded the authorities concerned to take notice of the situation.

Talking to this news agency here the residents of the area complained that the heaps of garbage remain scattered causing foul smell. They said that digging for reconstruction of road has aggravated their problems. The manholes are open and could cause accident.

Auto workshops

ISLAMABAD, Sept 12: The auto workshops in residential areas of federal capital are creating problems for residents and they have demanded the authorities concerned to shift these auto workshops outside the residential areas.

Talking to this news agency here on Monday they complained that the existence of the auto workshops in residential areas is creating problems and unrest among them.  These auto workshops are existed in Goldan market sector G-7/3-3, G-8 Markaz, I & T center, G-6/1 Madina market and F-6. Drive against tax defaulters

RAWALPINDI, Sept 12: The Excise and Taxation authorities have established four squads to launch a special operation against more than 7,000 property tax defaulters in the garrison city.

The city has been divided into 27 circles for the recovery of the tax from the owners of the residential and commercial property. The property tax defaulters would be imposed heavy fines and their properties might be sealed if they failed to pay the tax and the fine. — Online
