Revenue officials booked

HARIPUR, Aug 23: The anti-corruption department on Tuesday registered a case against officials of revenue department for allegedly attesting fake mutation of land.

Anti-corruption police said Mushtaq Ahmad of village Kahal had purchased 3.5 kanal land from Rehmat Khan of Mirpur for Rs200,000 and the mutation was entered in the revenue record by halqa patwari Javed Khan in October last year on payment of Rs25,000.

However, after some time he was informed the land was not transferred in his name and another man, Khalid, was claiming its ownership.

When Mushtaq checked the record, he found that patwari Javed, teshildar Sanaullah and girdawar Sarfraz had illegally transferred the property rights in the name of Khalid showing the cost of deed as Rs500,000. —Correspondent

Man shot dead

NOWSHERA, Aug 23: A man was killed and his brother was seriously injured when their opponent fired at them over a petty dispute in Kheshgi Bala area the other day.

Police said Siraj opened fire at Shaukat Khan and his brother Farhad Khan after exchanging harsh words with the latter over the issue of low voltage of electricity in their village. The Risalpur police registered a case and started investigation.

Meanwhile, unidentified persons threw two hand grenades at a police checkpost in the Nihalpura area in Jehangira the other day.

Sources said the attackers escaped the area. However, no report of casualties or damage to the building was received. —Correspondent

NGOs’ activities banned

MANSEHRA, Aug 23: The executive district officer (education), Mansehra, has imposed ban on all sorts of activities of non-governmental organisations in the schools without seeking prior permission from the provincial education department.

According to a handout issued by the information department here on Tuesday, the ban would not apply to NGOs which are involved in reconstruction of school buildings and other offices of the education department.

Sources said male and female officials of the national and international NGOs were in the habit of going directly to girls schools in the name of sensitisation and other activities which irked local communities. —Correspondent

Ancient building

MANSEHRA, Aug 23: The Hazara University has sought funds from the HEC to preserve ancient court building of the last Turk king Sultan Mehmood Khurd in Gullibagh about 23km off here.

The building, which is in a dilapidated condition, was used by the king as court to decide the cases from across the region. The king, who had wished to be buried next to the court building, had made a cenotaph for it, but he was killed in a battle in Delhi and was buried there.

Safdar Khan, chairman of the department of conservation studies, said university had sought Rs10 million from the HEC to preserve the building. —Correspondent

Man killed in Haripur

HARIPUR, Aug 23: A man was killed after being hit by a Havelian-bound train near the railway station here on Tuesday.

Police and family sources said Nazar Ahmed, 45, of Roshan Abad, was crossing the railway track near railway station when he was hit by the train.

His body was cut into two pieces, police and eyewitnesses said. The deceased was reportedly suffering from impaired hearing and could not hear the horn that the engine driver applied several times before hitting him.

It may be added that the Roshan Abad, Mohalla railway station, Talokar Town, Masoom Abad and several other mohallas are situated along the railway track having no railway crossing. —Correspondent

Ramazan package

GHALANAI, Aug 23: Mohmand Agency IDPs living at Nahqi camp are still awaiting Ramazan special package as Eidul Fitr draws nearer.

After the conflict in the border areas of Baizai and Safi tehsils, a large number of populations displaced from their respective areas had settled at Nahqi IDPs camp at Halimzai tehsil of Mohmand. Presently, about 1,000 families are living in the camp.

A tribesman, namely Hawaldar, resident of Qandahari area, whose family had recently come to the camp from the Jalozai IDPs camp, told this correspondent they did not get anything in Ramazan. He said in Jalozai camp they used to receive food items during the last Ramazan. —Correspondent

KP sends relief to Badin

PESHAWAR, Aug 23: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government on Tuesday dispatched food items worth Rs20 million for the flood affected people of Badin district of Sindh.

The relief goods were dispatched in 25 trucks supervised by the officials of the Provincial Disaster Management Authority.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Ministers, including Bashir Ahmed Bilour, Rahim Dad Khan, Syed Zahir Ali Shah, Mian Iftikhar Hussain and government officials were also present on the occasion.

Mr Bilour said 4,000 relief packages had been sent to Sindh province and each package valued at Rs5,000.

The items, he said included 20kg wheat flour bags, 10kg rice bags, 5kg ghee tins, dry milk, tea leaves, salt and water. —Bureau Report
