LANDI KOTAL/GHALANAI, July 25: Two more schools were blown up in Khyber Agency while a shepherd was killed and three militants were injured in separate incidents in Mohmand tribal region on Monday.

Sources said that unidentified persons planted huge quantity of explosives in a government school for girls and a primary school for boys in Akkakhel area of Bara tehsil in Khyber Agency.

The explosives destroyed most portions of the two schools, they said, adding the school for boys was destroyed in broad daylight despite presence of security forces in the area.

Local sources said that in most cases that took place in Bara, the saboteurs later came in pick-up vehicles and took away remains of the destroyed school buildings including furniture, doors, windows and even bricks and steel bars used in the ceilings.

“The items are then sold away at throwaway prices in Bara and surrounding areas,” said a Bara resident, who wished not to be named. He said that besides militants a number of local unemployed youth were involved in destruction of schools.

“Security forces have so far failed to nab any of the culprits despite their presence in most of those parts where these schools have been targeted,” he said.

Meanwhile, three security personnel received injuries when militants attacked them in Spin Qabar area of Sipah on Sunday night. Officials said that militants attacked a convoy of Mehsud Scouts, which was going to Frot Salop from Jansi Camp, and injured three security men.

Meanwhile, three militants were injured in exchange of fire with Levies Force in Prang Dara of tehsil Haleemzai in Mohmand tribal region on Monday. Sources said that a child was also injured in the clash.

The political administration and security forces conducted joint search operation in far-flung area of Prang Dara after getting information about presence militants there.

Militants opened firing on security personnel. Three militants were injured in retaliatory firing, sources said. The fleeing militants took their injured colleagues with them. A child was also wounded in the incident. He was taken to local hospital.

In another incident, a 15-year-old shepherd was killed in a landmine explosion in Safi tehsil of Mohmand Agency on Monday.

The killed shepherd was identified as Muhibullah. Officials said that Muhibullah was residing with his relatives owing to military operation in his native village Sheikh Baba.
