Man shot dead

LANDI KOTAL, June 21: One person was killed and four others, including two women, were injured in two separate incidents in Khyber Agency on Tuesday.

Sources said a step-nephew killed his uncle in Ziyarhai locality of Landi Kotal over a property dispute. The deceased was father of a local journalist, Amin ul Haq.

In Bara tehsil four persons, including two women, received fatal injuries when unidentified men threw hand grenades on a house of Habib Khan in Shalobar area.

The attackers managed to flee from the scene. Locals said the attack was the result of some family feud.

At least six shops were gutted when a huge fire caused by electricity short circuit broke out near Minara mosque in Bara bazaar on Tuesday. —Correspondent

Gunned down

MARDAN, June 21: A man was allegedly shot dead over a money dispute in Qamar Gai area of Rustam village on Tuesday, police said.

Quoting relatives of the victim, Rustam police said the accused, identified as Ismail, had borrowed some money from the victim, Ameer Wahid, with the promise to return it within few days.

After some days, they said, the victim visited the Ismail’s home to get back his borrowed money from him, however, they developed some differences and exchanged hot words with each other. At which Ismail got infuriated and opened fire on Ameer Wahid killing him on the spot.

The police registered FIR against Ismail on the complaint of the father of the slain, Fazal Wahid. —Correspondent

Chemical weapons

KARAK, June 21: The JI provincial vice-president Mushtaq Ahmad Khan has claimed the US-led Nato forces are using chemical weapons in the tribal belt. He added President Zardari and ANP chief Asfandyar Wali were playing the role of paid assassins for the US.

He was addressing the Dastarbandi ceremony of a religious seminary at Dagar Nari here on Monday. He alleged loyalty to US was the one point agenda of PPP and ANP-led governments.

He alleged the federal and provincial governments were involved in massacre of Pakhtuns, adding, in its three years the government gifted to masses only suicide attacks, loadshedding, unemployment, corruption, skyrocketing price hike and drone attacks. Mr Ahmad alleged the champions of Pakhtuns rights had sold them for dollars. —Correspondent

Streets paved

TIMERGARA, June 21: The district administration has paved 17 streets in Tauda Cheena besides constructing side drains and retaining walls to improve transportation and sanitation facilities.

A press release issued by the Malakand Development Programme here on Tuesday stated the paved streets had been in bad shape. The district administration constructed 1,115 meters long concrete streets along with 208 meters side drains. A 92-meter-long retaining wall was also constructed.

Meanwhile, the district boy scouts association, Lower Dir on Tuesday sent a group of 126 scouts to Abbottabad for their summer camp training.

Before departure the scouts were asked to follow strictly the rules and discipline. —Correspondent

Medical equipment

KOHAT, June 21: A non-governmental organisation on Tuesday donated medical equipment worth Rs16 million to the KDA divisional headquarters hospital and women and children hospital.

The surgical equipments, medicines, water coolers and a tube-well were handed over to the health department at a ceremony also attended by District Coordination Officer, Kohat, Shahidullah Khan.

Project director of the NGO, CORDID, Zahir Ali Shah and medical superintendent of KDA hospital, Dr Omer Khan, were also present.

The DCO and health department officials thanked the other NGOs for generously helping the government in providing healthcare to the masses. —Correspondent

Security situation

KOHAT, June 21: The Commissioner, Kohat division, Sahibzada Mohammad Anees, while chairing a high-level meeting on Tuesday, said keeping law and order in the whole region was the top priority of the government.

He termed the security situation in the Frontier Region of Kohat, including Darra Adamkhel and other parts, as satisfactory where situation had returned to normalcy due to successful operation of the army.

He was given a briefing by the political agent and District Coordination Officer, Kohat, Shahidullah Khan, on the general law and order, administrative set up and the ongoing development work. The meeting was attended by the assistant political agent, Syed Gul Jamal and army officers. —Correspondent
