Husband strangles wife

CHAKWAL, June 8: A man killed his wife in a village here on Wednesday, police said.

Waseem Haider, of Naeya Mohalla, used to beat his wife, Shagufta Iqbal, mother of three, as he wanted to marry another woman.

On Tuesday, he asked his wife to go to her parents’ house in Lahore along with her three children but she refused. When Waseem against beat her, she phoned her brother in Lahore and told him that she was getting life threats. At this, Waseem strangled her to death. After killing the woman, the accused called his in-laws and told them that Shagufta had died of heart attack. The family of the woman rushed to Chakwal and wanted to examine the body. As they saw marks of injuries around the neck, they informed the police who took the body to District Headquarters Hospital for autopsy. Meanwhile, the accused disappeared from the house.

According to police, the autopsy report confirmed that the woman had been strangled. — Correspondent

Boy dies in accident

ISLAMABAD, June 8: A six-year-old boy was crushed to death by a tractor in Muslim Colony near Bari Imam on Wednesday, police said.

The victim – Ali Asghar – suffered multiple injuries when a tractor ran over him while he playing outside his home. The boy died on the spot and the tractor driver managed to escape leaving the vehicle behind.

Later, the body was shifted to hospital for legal process. The police after getting the information arrived at the spot and impounded the vehicle which was later shifted to the police station.— Staff Reporter

Man shot dead

TAXILA, June 8: A man was shot dead in Farooq-i-Azam locality on Wednesday over illicit relations with a girl.

Police said Rabia Bibi, a resident of Haripur, was in love with Faisal Riaz, 25, and wanted to marry him. Some days back, she fled her home for a court marriage. But the family members of Faisal Riaz convinced her to return to her home and she should send a marriage proposal through her parents.

Rabia Bibi’s brother Adil Ahmed got infuriated at what his sister had done. In a well-conceived plan, he went to the house of Faisal Riaz and invited him to his home to finalise the marriage.

As soon as Faisal Riaz stepped out of his home, Adil Ahmed and three persons opened fire on him, killing him on the spot, Mohammad Riaz, father of Faisal, told the police. The alleged killers managed to escape. —Correspondent

Man found dead

ATTOCK, June 8: A person was found dead in Ghorghusti village of Hazro Police station. Police said on Wednesday that Urangzaib Khan reported to Hazro police station that his brother Jehnzaib khan went to his friend, Shahid Zaman's house for dinner on Tuesday evening. After some time, he was informed by a villager that his brother was lying dead at a distance. On information, police rushed to the scene and shifted the body to the THQ hospital for postmortem. Hazro police registered a murder case and started investigation.— Correspondent

2 killed in separate incidents

RAWALPINDI, June 8: Two persons were killed in separate incidents on Wednesday, police said.

In the first incident, Abdul Karim was going to the mosque for Fajr prayer when an unknown person shot him dead.

Ishfaq Ahmed, son of Abdul Karim, told Ganjmandi police that his father had no enmity with anybody.

In the other incident, an unidentified man, said to be a heroin addict, was found stabbed to death in Pirwadhai area, police said. Preliminary police report suggested that the victim had killed himself with a sharp knife due to non-availability of narcotics. — Staff Reporter

Power outages resented

GUJAR KHAN, June 8: The frequent and unscheduled loadshedding in the city and adjoining areas has made the lives of people miserable.

According to the residents, the prolonged power outages have become unbearable in this sizzling summer. They said that throughout the night the arrival and departure of electricity had become a source of annoyance as no one could sleep throughout the night. The children and the old people are the worst sufferers. The people said that it had become impossible for the people to earn their livelihood due to the frequent power outages. — Correspondent

Teenager goes missing

TAXILA, June 8: A teenager went missing under mysterious circumstances from Mohallah Parri in the limits of Taxila police station.

Mehboob Ellahi reported to the police that his son Zeeshan, 17, went missing some three weeks back. He said several attempts were made to contact him but his mobile phone was switched off and he had not contacted his family so far. It may be mentioned here that Zeeshan’s elder brother was shot dead by unknown assailants a few months back.—Correspondent

Truck snatched

CHAKWAL, June 8: A truck loaded with cement was snatched by unknown robbers here on Wednesday. Police said that Gulzar Ahmad, driver of the truck (PKQ-589) loaded seven hundred bags of cement from Bestway Cement Factory and left for Kallar Syedan along with his conductor, Nazim Ali. When he was passing through Bin Ameer Khatoon village, four robbers forced him to stop the vehicle on gunpoint.

He said that the robbers snatched Rs10,000, mobile phones from him and conductor and made good their escape on the truck. The police registered a case and started investigation. — Correspondent
