3 of family shot dead

SWABI, June 7: Three people of the same family were killed and another was injured when their rivals opened fire on them here on Tuesday.

Police said the incident occurred in Tordher village, adding, the victims and their rival families had a dispute over the ownership of a street which led to the incident. The victims were identified as two brothers Roohul Amin and Hazrat Amin and their 10-year-old nephew Kamran Khan. Another person of the family identified as Hanif, son of Hazrat Amin, sustained wounds, and was hospitalised. —Correspondent

Man gunned down

HARIPUR, June 7: A young man was shot dead for allegedly being involved in a love affair in the jurisdiction of city police station on Tuesday.

Riaz Mohammad of Mohalla Noor Colony told police some two weeks back a girl namely Rabia, daughter of Haji Mohammad Rafique of Taxila, came to his house and asked his son, Faisal Riaz, 26, to solemnise court marriage with her. But he (Riaz) took her back to her parents’ home with the promise to properly propose her for his son.

However, infuriated by his sister's decision of fleeing the home, her brother, Mohammad Adil, came to their home on Tuesday and asked them to go with him to their home for deciding the issue of Rabia and Faisal's marriage. “But the moment we got out of home Adil and his three accomplices opened fire at Faisal Riaz with pistols injuring him critically. The injured was shifted to Women and Children Hospital where he succumbed to injuries. —Correspondent

Power dues

PESHAWAR, June 7: Peshawar Electric Supply Company claims recovering a huge amount of Rs375 million during its drive for recovery of dues and against illegal connections in the province.

A Pesco statement on Tuesday said the money had been recovered in Peshawar, Khyber, Mardan, Hazara, Swat and Bannu circles. More than 14,000 direct hooks were removed and 2,149 people were booked during the operation cleanup.

Meanwhile, due to necessary repair and maintenance work power supply will remain suspended from 132kv D. I. Khan grid station on Thursday from 6am to 10am, affecting consumers attached with 11kv Cantonment-I and Cantonment-II feeders. —Bureau Report

Water supply scheme

MANSEHRA, June 7: A water supply scheme was inaugurated in Chakrilea area on Tuesday funded by the National Urban Development Project (UNDP).

The water supply scheme was handed over to the tehsil municipal administration Mansehra in a ceremony which was attended by the director of the NUDP Saleem Khan and TMO Barkatuallah Khan.

Saleem Khan said the NUDP had laid over 30,000 feet pipelines in Mansehra to supply potable water in the city and adjoining areas.

Mr Khan said four tube-wells had also been dipped in the Ichar Nullah and water was being supplied to the adjoining areas and some parts in the city.

Mr Saleem said very soon more water supply schemes would be inaugurated. —Correspondent

Suspect gets bail

PESHAWAR, June 7: A local court on Tuesday granted bail to a suspect in a double-murder case of two females who were killed in mysterious circumstances and their bodies were thrown at a deserted place.

The Additional District and Sessions Judge, Fakhruz Zaman, allowed bail petition of the suspect, Azmat Khan, and directed him to furnish two sureties of Rs300,000 each.

Bodies of the females -- Rehana (16) and Romana (40) -- were recovered from Afridiabad area in the jurisdiction of Gulbahar police station on Feb 8, 2011. The FIR of case was registered on Feb 12 after their postmortem confirmed they were strangulated to death.

The counsel of the suspect contended these were blind murders and no evidence was available against the suspect. —Bureau Report

Nominations opposed

PESHAWAR, June 7: Representatives of different sports associations of Federally Administered Tribal Area have expressed concern over the nomination of Fata Olympic Association secretary and termed the nomination in violation of the rules.

Speaking at a press conference at Peshawar press club on Tuesday Karate Association secretary Abdul Samad Afridi and Football Association president Yar-ur-Rehman Afridi said the nomination of Fata Olympic Association secretary was not acceptable to the Fata players.

They blamed the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Olympic Secretary Zulfiqar Butt for nominating his near and dear ones on the important seats without consulting the relevant people for the purpose. —Bureau Report
