Zardari House gardener killed

ISLAMABAD, June 2: The gardener of Zardari House was killed as he was hit by a speedy motorcycle here on Thursday. The victim was identified as Mehrban Khan, 55, a native of Attock. He had been working in Zardari House as a gardener for the last couple of years.

He suffered multiple injuries when a motorcycle hit him in G-9 while he was coming to the Zardari House on his bicycle. He was shifted to the hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

In another incident, a man was found dead in Panwal, a rural area of Kural.

The incident came to light when some villagers spotted an abandoned body lying in the fields and informed the police. The police reached the spot and shifted the body to the hospital for pending identification and legal process.

The victim was said to be in his mid 20s. No marks of injuries were found on the body, the police said adding that an autopsy would be conducted on the body to ascertain the cause of death.—Staff Reporter

PIA hostess arrested

RAWALPINDI, June 2: An airhostess of Pakistan International Airline (PIA) was off-loaded from a Karachi-bound flight after the Airport Security Force (ASF) recovered 2.5kg heroin from her suitcase at the security check-in counter of Benazir Bhutto International Airport on Thursday night, the sources said.

The source said that the seizure was made when the check-in of PIA flight for Karachi (PK-319) was in progress as the ASF staff got suspicious when the loader put her extra large size suitcase on the scanning machine that sounded an alert.

The airhostess was asked to open the suitcase and the ASF officials searched it twice which led to the recovery of 2.5kg heroin packed in 12 packets which were skillfully concealed in the suitcase.

The airhostess however denied that it was her suitcase and even her husband, who is a steward in the PIA and was about to leave for Saudi Arabia in another flight, tried to rescue his wife but she was handed over to the ANF staff for further investigations. —Staff Reporter

Oil tanker torched

TAXILA, June 2: An oil tanker carrying fuel supply to the Nato forces in Afghanistan was set on fire by unidentified people on the GT Road near Fathullah village in limits of Hassanabdal police station on Wednesday evening.

According to official sources, unknown miscreants torched Nato oil tanker (bearing number DIK-4443). After receiving information, the police rescue teams arrived at the scene. The fire brigade put out fire after an hour long struggle. The drivers and conductors also fled the scene. Hassanabdal police registered a case against the unknown miscreants and started further investigation.—Correspondent

Parachinar issue

ISLAMABAD, June 2: The Supreme Court Judge Justice Javed Iqbal has said that he would try to resolve the Parachinar issue as soon as possible.

He said this while talking to a delegation of Youth of Parachinar and International Human Rights Association of Kurram Agency led by Dr. Ghazanfer Mehdi.

A statement issued by the Youth of Parachinar said that the delegation briefed Justice Javed Iqbal about the crisis and genocide of innocent citizens including women and children at the hands of Taliban in Parachinar, Kurram Agency.

He was presented a complete report along with CD's and documents related to the situation and developments in Parachinar.

Justice Javed Iqbal said, “It looks like that the authorities are not paying attention to the issue,” and assured the delegation that he would personally take interest in this issue and try to resolve it as soon as possible. —A Reporter

Survey about residents

ISLAMABAD, June 2: Police on Thursday launched a survey to collect details about the people living in the capital.

The survey’s assignment was given to Sub-Divisional Police Officers (SDPOs) and Station House Officers at a meeting chaired by Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Islamabad Tahir Alam Khan.

The survey, which will be completed in three weeks, will collect information about Afghan habitats and slums. During the survey, the police will be assisted by the personnel of intelligence agencies. For carrying out the survey, 58 teams have been formed. A team will responsible to collect the details of a sub-sector and four teams are reserved for a sector of urban areas.

The intelligence agencies will help the capital police in verifying the status and past of suspicious people from the district police of their native towns. —Staff Reporter

Illegal water connections

ISLAMABAD, June 2: Capital Development Authority (CDA), under its ongoing campaign to save water, has identified 150 illegal connections so far which will be disconnected soon to avoid water shortage in the capital.

Talking to this agency, Director General CDA Water Management Wing, Sanaullah Aman said that most of the residents had fitted motors on the pipelines illegally for sucking extra water which caused problem to supply water to all the sectors.

However, the CDA teams had also identified 60 motors which were installed at various places and would be disconnected, Aman said.

Under the campaign, notices would be issued to those who waste water on washing cars, gardening and other chores and the authority will disconnect the lines of those who will not avoid lavish use of water.— APP
