ISLAMABAD: The statements of assets and lia-bilities submitted by members of the National Assembly to the Election Commission show that around 80 MNAs, out of 342, do not own a car. Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani, whose son paid Rs85 million as duty on the import of a bullet-proof car, is among the MNAs who do not own a car.

The Federal Minister for Religious Affairs, Syed Khurshid Ahmed Shah, Minister for Food and Agriculture Nazar Mohammad Gondal, Minister of State for Economic Affairs Hina Rabbani Khar, National Assembly Deputy Speaker Faisal Karim Kundi, JUI-F chief Maulana Fazlur Rahman, his brother and former federal minister Attaur Rahman, former information minister Qamar Zaman Kaira, former education minister Sardar Aseff Ahmad Ali, and former minister of state for industries Dr Ayatullah Durrani are also on the list of MNAs who are without their own car.

Former minister for livestock and dairy development Mir Humayun Aziz Kurd, who owns a coal company in Balochistan, a plot of land valued at Rs9.6 million and around 1,450 acres of land, doesn’t possess a car. But his dependent mother has Rs20 million in cash. Jam Mir Mohammad Yousaf, who comes from an influential family of Lasbela district, owns a house in Defence Society, Karachi, but not a car.

Sardar Mehtab Ahmed Khan, a former chief minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, former minister of state for interior Tasneem Ahmed Qureshi, former defence minister Aftab Shabaan Mirani, former minister Ghous Bux Mahar and MNAs Abid Sher Ali and Jamshed Dasti do not have their own cars.

Abdul Rashid Godil and Salahuddin, who belong to the Muttahida Qaumi Movement, also don’t have their own cars.Begum Nuzhat Sadiq of the PML-N has Rs80.4 million cash in hand, shares worth Rs2.2 million in various businesses and her family owns businesses worth Rs562.05 million, Rukhsana Bangash (PPP) owns a house in Islamabad valued at Rs40 million, Nosheen Saeed (PML-Q) has assets worth Rs109 million and Rs1.34 million in cash, Rubina Saadat Qaimkhani owns business and property worth Rs90 million, but none of them own a car.

Shahnaz Wazir Ali, Palwasha Khan, Samina Mushtaq Pag-ganwala, Marvi Memon, Farah Naz Ispahani, Fauzia Wahab, Kishwer Zehra, Reena Kumari, Dr Imtiaz Sultan Bukhari, and Dr Zil-i-Huma also do not have their own car.

Minority members without a vehicle are Dr Mahesh Kumar of Tharparkar and Dr Darshan of Ghotki, Sindh.

Other MNAs who do not have their own cars include Engineer Khurram Dastgir Khan, Saira Afzal Tarar, Muhammad Tariq Tarar, Sumaira Yasir Rasheed, Bilal Yasin, Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, Samina Khalid Ghurki, Rana Tanveer Hussain, Mian Javed Latif, Sardar Talib Hassan Nakai, Capt (retd) Rai Ghulam Mujtaba Kharral, Noorul Haq Qadri, Raheela Parveen, Rana Abdul Sattar, Rana Mehmood ul Hassan, Javed Iqbal Warraich, Faqir Mohammad Jadim Mangrio, Mufti Mohammad, Mufti Ajmal Khan, Syed Haider Ali Shah, Istiqbal Khan, Raja Mohammad Asad Khan, Chaudhry Anwar Ali Cheema, Malik Shakir Bashir Awan, Nawabzada Malik Amad Khan, Rashid Akbar Khan, Malik Nawab Sher Waseer, Mohammad Asim Nazir, Rana Asif Tauseef, Liaqat Ali Khan, Pirzada Syed Imran Ahmed Shah, Ghulam Farid Kathia, Sardar Mansab Ali Dogar, Mohammad Salman Mohsin Gillani, Mir Dost Mohammad Mazari, Mohammad Mohsin Ali Qureshi, Arif Aziz Sheikh, Khadija Aamir Yar Malik, Shamshad Sattar Bachani, Pir Aftab Hussain Shah Jillani, Syed Ayaz Ali Shah Shirazi, Sher Mohammad Baloch and Mir Ahmadan Khan Bugti.

There are around 90 MNAs who own more than one cars, many of them luxury vehicles.

Murtaza Javed Abbasi of the PML-N has a bullet-proof car gifted by an unnamed ‘friend’.Captain (retd) Safdar has a 4800cc BMW car gifted to his wife Maryam by some unnamed person from the UAE. The model of the car has not been mentioned, but the value has been put at Rs6 million.

Khwaja Mohammad Asif of the PML-N owns seven vehicles, including two Toyota Camry cars, one Prado, one Honda Accord and one Toyota Mark II. Former NA deputy speaker Syed Zafar Ali Shah of the PPP owns a Prado, a Pajero and a 1977 model Toyota Starlet.

Former foreign minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi has five vehicles, including two for agriculture purposes, two for own use and one in the name and use of his son. Sardar Jaffar Leghari owns four vehicles, including one Prado and two Pajero. Former Minister for industries and production Jehangir Khan Tarin owns four vehicles, including two Prado and one Range Rover.

Commerce Minister Makhdoom Amin Fahim owns four cars, including a 2010 model Mercedes. Mir Amir Ali Magsi has four cars worth Rs7.5 million in his own use and another car worth Rs2.2 million in his wife’s use. Syed Ghulam Murtaza Shah has four vehicles, including Mercedes and Toyota Vigo.

Mohammad Siddiq Khan Baloch has four vehicles, including a Prado. One of the richest MNAs Mahboob Ullah Jan owns four vehicles.

Mir Munawwar Khan Talpur owns three vehicles, including two Land Cruisers and one Pajero, worth over Rs24 million. Faryal Talpur, former federal minister Asma Arbab Alamgir, Sardar M. Umar, Mir Changez Khan Jamali, Dr Arbab Ghulam Zahir, Dr Arbab Alamgir Khan, Tariq Mahmood Bajwa, Ghulam Bibi Bharwana, Liaquat Abbas Bhatti, Syed Murtaza Amin, Bilal Ahmad Virk own three vehicles each.

Prominent among those who possess two cars include Minister for Industries and Production Mir Hazar Khan Bijarani, Erra chairman Hamid Yar Hiraj, former minister for religious affairs Hamid Saeed Kazmi, former minister Makhdoom Shahabuddin, former education minister Zubeida Jalal, Humayun Saifullah Khan, Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, Riaz Fatyana, Chaudhry Wajahat Hussain, Hamza Shahbaz Sharif and Khawaja Saad Rafiq.
