TOBA TEK SINGH, April 12: Two people were badly tortured by their rivals in police custody on the court premises in Gojra where they were brought to appear before a magistrate on Tuesday. Reports said Sajjad and Niaz, both residents of Janniwal village, facing charges of attempted murder, were attacked by their rivals when they were being brought out of a courtroom after appearing before a judicial magistrate.

The attackers, Mukhtar and his four unidentified accomplices, who belonged to the same village, subjected the two handcuffed accused to severe torture. They also injured two other accused in the case – Ilyas and Niaz – who were on bail.

Gojra city police arrested Mukhtar and registered a case against him and his accomplices.

DIES OF SHOCK: A woman apparently died of shock when she was told that her son-in-law had been shot at and injured by some robbers here on Tuesday.

Reports said Munir Ahmad was returning home after withdrawing cash from a bank when two motorcyclists attempted to snatch the money from him. On facing resistance, the outlaws shot at and seriously injured Munir. He was shifted to DHQ hospital in critical condition.

When the news of the incident reached Munir’s home, his mother-in-law Tahira Bibi suffered a heart attack and died. DEMAND: PML-N MPA Mian Muhammad Rafiq has demanded that rural and urban areas should be treated equally with regard to electricity loadshedding.
