LAHORE, March 19: Federal Minister for Environment and Women’s Development Samina Khalid Ghurki said on Saturday the government was providing adequate training and education opportunities to women. She was speaking at a briefing given by officers of the Ministry of Women’s Development about various projects and working of the ministry.

Ministry of Women’s Development Secretary Batool Iqbal Qureshi, Director General Taimour, Senior Joint Secretary Nuzhet Fatima, Director General Nighat and Deputy Secretary Umer Aziz were also present.

Highlighting the need for women’s development, Ms Ghurki said: “We cannot achieve the goal of development without engaging women in every sphere of life and the government is trying to provide opportunities to women to explore their talent and capabilities.”

She told the officials to launch a media campaign to educate women about their socio-economic and political rights.

Earlier, Ms Qureshi informed the minister that the ministry was working for social, legal, political and economic empowerment of women. She said women’s development centres were being opened in different areas of the country, where women would be provided counseling about various issues.

She said 30 new women’s development centres would be opened in a year and two women’s hostels would be built in Islamabad.
