TOBA TEK SINGH, Dec 8: Police on Wednesday arrested the city PPP secretary-general (reporter of a private TV channel) from outside Fesco office for purchasing gold ornaments from alleged robbers.

Reports said Rana Khalid Mahmood, also a jeweller, was wanted by Faisalabad police for purchasing 2kg gold from some alleged robbers. On Wednesday, the police arrested him and also took away his car when he came out of the Fesco office.

A city police official said no report was registered against him.

Later, PPP activists and local reporters staged a demonstration and set ablaze tyres near the level crossing, blocking traffic for an hour.

Thereafter, a delegation of journalists, led by press club president Manzoor Naz, met DPO Ahsan Younis who said he had got details of the case against Rana Khalid. He said Khalid was wanted by Faisalabad police in a case of purchase of 2kg gold from robbers.

The DPO said the Faisalabad police arrested two robbers, including a woman, who during interrogation, told the police that they had sold two kilo looted gold to Rana Khalid. ACCIDENT: A motorcyclist was killed and his friend injured in a collision with a donkey cart on Wednesday on Dawakhri-Nawan Lahore Road.

Shahid Mahmood of Chak 94-JB and his friend, Sadiq Ali, were on their way to Nawan Lahore when their bike hit a cart. Shahid succumbed to his injuries on way to Gojra THQ Hospital.

ROBBERY: Dacoits deprived a family of cash, gold ornaments and other valuables worth over Rs600,000 on Tuesday night on a link road.

Abdul Razzaq, his son (an expatriate), his daughter-in-law and other family members were on their way to Chak 254-GB by a rickshaw after attending wedding of a relative. Near Adda Soondh, two motorcyclists stopped them and took away jewellery worth Rs500,000, a cash of Rs25,000 and four cell phones. An official said on Wednesday that Naveed Akhtar belonged to the Government High School, Chak 715-GB, Kamalia.
