MIANWALI, Feb 8: Police teams looking into the bombing at the Qudratabad police check post on Saturday have not reached any conclusion, says District Police Officer Tassadaq Hayat.

The DPO told Dawn on Sunday he had requisitioned additional police force from the Punjab government and had tightened security measures keeping watchful eyes on suspects at entry points to the district.

Police posts adjoining the NWFP have been manned with additional force equipped with modern weapons.

He said that six police officials and two Razakars were killed in the blast. He said Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif had announced a Rs2 million compensation for heirs to each police official besides the families will get salaries till the time they were to reach their retirement.

The government would provide free education to their children and also provide job to one of the children in police. The government also announced Rs1 million each to families of two Razakars.

JAIL UNREST: Prisoners created unrest in the central jail here on Sunday after the jail authorities conducted a search operation and seized cash and cell phones from them.

The prisoners started slogans against the jail administration and refused to take breakfast. The jail authorities denied any such unrest.
