KARACHI, Feb 3: A 35-year-old man, father of six, committed suicide on Tuesday in his home in Metroville.

The Site police said the victim, Rasheed Khan, son of Haji Mirza Khan, killed himself by shooting in the head at around 4.30pm.

They said the victim, hailing from the NWFP, was the father of three sons and as many daughters and a resident of house F-17, Block-3.

The police quoted the victim’s family as saying that the man, who was the owner of a gas-cylinder shop in North Nazimabad, was a short-tempered man, who could flare up even on petty issues.

The family, however, did not know what caused the man to take his life.

The body was shifted to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for a medico-legal examination.

Sources at the hospital’s medico-legal section told Dawn that a bullet shot to the victim’s right temple pierced the head.

The police said the body was handed over to the victim’s family after medico-legal proceedings.

38 vehicles, 36 phones taken away

As many as 38 vehicles – seven automobiles and 31 motorcycles – and 36 cellular phones were taken away by the evening on Tuesday in different parts of the city.

Officials at the Citizens-Police Liaison Committee (CPLC) told Dawn that two cars were snatched at gunpoint within the police limits of Sohrab Goth and Korangi Industrial Area.

They said seven other cars were stolen in the limits of New Town, Gulbahar, Saddar and Preedy.

The CPLC officials said nine motorcycles were snatched at gunpoint in the police jurisdictions of Memon Goth, Azizabad, Korangi, New Karachi Industrial Area, Khawaja Ajmair Nagri, Sir Syed Town, Bilal Colony, Risala and Airport.

Besides, they said, 22 motorcycles were stolen in the police limits of Saeedabad, Darakhshan, Frere, Defence, Azizabad, Jauharabad, Aziz Bhatti, Ferozabad, Brigade, Zaman Town, Gulbahar, Shahrah-i-Noorjahan, North Nazimabad, Risala, Kharadar, Preedy, Eidgah and Garden.

They said 36 cellular phones were taken away by the evening across the city. Of them, they said, 17 were snatched at gunpoint and 19 stolen.

The officials said 11 cars, 35 motorcycles and 90 cellular phones were taken away in different parts of the city on Monday.

Three dacoits held

Four suspected dacoits were arrested in New Karachi.

The Bilal Colony police said three TT pistols and a snatched motorcycle were also seized from the suspects, identified as Abdullah alias Raja, Mohammed Kamran and Mohammed Sabir alias Jawaid.

The police said the suspects were spotted by the police near Imambargah Jafferia in Sector 5-D where they were planning to commit a robbery.

They said a case (FIR 28/2009) was registered against the suspects under Sections 393 (planning of robbery) and 34 (common intention) on behalf of the state.

Besides, they said, separate cases were registered against the three suspects under Section 13-D of the Arms Ordinance for possessing illegal weapons.

They said the motorcycle seized from the suspects had been snatched at gunpoint in New Karachi a few days back.
