KOHAT, Jan 26: Helicopter gunships targeted the hideouts of militants in different parts of Darra Adamkhel and on the Kotal Hills on Monday.

The security forces also continued artillery fire at the Darra mountains, Bosti Khel and Tor Chappar where they claimed militants had been hiding following beginning of operation in August last.

The ground forces also conducted operation in these areas which had been closed for the public and residents had already been forced to leave for safer areas.

There were no reports of fresh killings in the firing after militants killed an army officer and injured five soldiers in a battle on Friday.

MINER KILLED: A labourer was killed and two sustained serious injuries as a coal mine collapsed in Darra Adamkhel on late Sunday night.

Sources said that three people were trapped inside a mine, which caved in the Feroze Mela area of Zarghun Khel in Darra Adamkhel.

The residents of the area who work themselves in the mines without any safety measures pulled out the three men late in the night. One of the miners, identified as Mahnoosh, resident of Karora area, Shangla district died due to suffocation.
