GHALANI, Jan 23: The security forces demolished over 50 houses of suspected militants during a search operation in Lakaro tehsil of Mohmand tribal region on Friday.

Sources said that the personnel conducted the operation in areas of Habibzai, Ghari, Kareer and Qayyumabd villages. They razed to ground and set on fire the houses belonging to suspected militants. An abandoned residence of local Taliban commander Sangeen was also destroyed in Kareer.

Meanwhile, a convoy of security forces passed on the main Peshawar-Bajaur road from Naqai to Mamadgat area of tehsil Lakaro for the first time after January 14, 2008 when the militants occupied the area.—Correspondent
