KARACHI, Jan 20: An additional district and sessions judge (south) on Tuesday directed the jail superintendent to submit a report regarding the medical examination of a gold trader, Kamran Tessori, within three days.

The court warned the jail official that it would take stern action in case of non-compliance.

Earlier, Judge Nizar Ali Khawaja had allowed an application filed by the suspect seeking medical treatment and directed the jail authorities to shift him in a hospital in police custody and submit a compliance report.

However, the jail authorities had failed to submit the compliance report.

The accused had been charged with possessing illicit weapons and a case was registered against him under Section 13-E of the Arms Ordinance 1965, at the Gizri police station.

The police had arrested him at Karachi airport upon his arrival from Islamabad on Nov 5, 2008. Later, he was remanded in judicial custody.

The court also directed the jail authorities not to shift the suspect out of the city without the court’s permission. The suspect had expressed his apprehension that he might be shifted out of Karachi.
