KARACHI: Prosecution witness testifies in boy’s kidnap case



By Our Staff Reporter KARACHI, Jan 13: An anti-terrorism court on Tuesday recorded the statement of a prosecution witness in a case pertaining to the kidnapping of an eight-year-old boy for ransom.The accused, Adnan Ahmed Khan and Naila, have been charged with kidnapping the boy, Arsalan, on August 13 in the limits of Sachal police station.


The complainant, Saddar Jan, testified that on Aug 13 he came to know that his grandson was kidnapped by unidentified culprits and later they had demanded ransom for his release. He deposed that he had informed the police and lodged a case against the kidnappers.

The judge, Syed Hasan Shah Bukhari, of ATC-I adjourned the hearing till Jan 30.

According to the prosecution, the accused demanded a ransom of Rs1 million from the victim’s family. However, the matter was reported to the police and the Anti-Violent Crime Cell with the coordination of the Citizens-Police Liaison Committee raided a house on Sept 15 in the Gulzar-i-Hijri area and arrested the couple and recovered the abducted child.

During the interrogation, the suspects disclosed that they had planned to kidnap the child as they loved each other and wanted to get married but needed the money to meet their wedding expenses, it added.

The case was registered under Section 365-A of the Pakistan Penal Code read with Section 7 of the Anti-Terrorism Act, 1997, at the Sachal police station.

Kidnap and murder case

The same court recorded the statement of a prosecution witness in another kidnapping for ransom and murder case of a customs clearing agent and adjourned the hearing till Jan 19.

The four accused, Syed Mohsin Raza alias Javed, his wife, Shazia, Syed Adnan Raza and Nazia, have been charged with kidnapping and murder of the clearing agent, Suhrab Khan, in the Gulbahar police limits on June 21.

The prosecution witness, ASI Hazoor Bux, in his statement said that he was on patrol when information was passed through wireless regarding the presence of a body in the Gulbahar area. He reached the spot and found the body in a vehicle. He sent the body to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital after completing necessary formalities and inspection of the vehicle. Later, he lodged a case on the complaint of the deceased’s brother, he testified.

According to the prosecution, the kidnappers had demanded a ransom of Rs80,000 for the release of the victim. But they allegedly shot him dead after getting the ransom. The body was found in the victim’s car (ANY-650) parked in the Gulbahar area on June 22.
