KARACHI: Man commits suicide after proposal’s rejection

KARACHI, Jan 13: Three people committed suicide on Tuesday in different parts of the city, police and witnesses said. Bilal Colony police said that a 30-year-old man hanged himself from the ceiling fan in a fresh milk shop near his house in Sector 5-E of the North Karachi area.
They said that the victim, owner of Bismillah Milk Shop, hailed from Kasur. He killed himself after he failed to marry the women he wanted to.
The police said that the victim also left a suicide note in which he mentioned the names of two women he wanted to marry.
The suicide note states that the victim killed himself as his mother failed to get his proposal approved from the family of either girl.
The police said the body was shifted to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for medico-legal proceedings. Later, the body was handed over to the victim’s relatives, who took it to their hometown.
Meanwhile, a 35-year-old man committed suicide in his rented house in Lines Area.
The Brigade police said that Mohammed Shahid hanged himself from a girder.
They said that the victim, a private firm employee, hailed from Rawalpindi.
The police said that the body was kept at the Edhi morgue in Sohrab Goth as the police were still trying to locate the victim’s family members.
In a somewhat similar incident, a 38-year-old man committed suicide in his house in Maulana Kausar Niazi Colony.
The Haideri police said that Mohammed Aslam, son of Chiragh Din, hanged himself from the ceiling fan.
Two boys killed in road tragedy
Two boys, aged 10 and 12 years, were knocked down and killed by a fast-moving trailer near ICI Bridge on Mauripur Road.
The police said that the boys were crossing the road when the trailer ran them over.
The trailer driver fled the scene immediately after the incident.
The police said that the trailer had been impounded and efforts were being made to track down its owner and the driver.
The bodies were shifted to the Civil Hospital where both the victims remained unidentified. Later, the bodies were kept at the Edhi morgue at Sohrab Goth for want of identification.
Carjacking
As many as 35 vehicles – seven automobiles and 28 motorbikes – and 31 cellular phone handsets were taken away by the evening on Tuesday in different parts of the city.
Officials at the Citizens-Police Liaison Committee told Dawn that two cars were snatched at gunpoint within the limits of Sir Syed Town and Garden.
They said the car thieves took away five vehicles in the police precincts of Shah Latif Town, Boat Basin, Gulistan-i-Jauhar, Ferozabad and Sir Syed Town.
The officials said that 10 motorcycles were snatched at gunpoint in the police jurisdictions of Surjani, Korangi Industrial Area, Rizvia Society, New Karachi Industrial Area, Sir Syed Town, Shahrah-i-Noorjahan, Taimuria, Pakistan Bazaar and Site.
They said that 18 motorbikes were stolen in the limits of Saeedabad, Ibrahim Haideri, Frere, New Town, Aziz Bhatti, Ferozabad, Zaman Town, Baghdadi, Kalri, New Karachi Industrial Area, Kharadar, Preedy, Eidgah, Garden, Nabi Bux and Site.
The CPLC officials said that at least 20 mobile phones were snatched at gunpoint and 11 others were stolen in different parts of the city by the evening.
They said that 58 vehicles – 11 cars and 47 motorcycles – and 90 cellular phones had been taken away on Monday.
